Neumann u87 VS DIY clone by microphone parts guitar, vocals, drums

Maybe not that scientific, but:

Neumann is the u87 ai - that’s what they have for rent locally.
DIY is from
I use the exact same pass on both mics.
Mics are side by side or top/bottom (guitar) so they’re getting the Exact same signal.
Pres are Cranborne Audio Camden’s. CA claims they are ultra clean.

Observations which won’t likely affect your preferences:

All recordings are on cardioid. DIY will do Omni as well but I didn’t compare them.
The DIY is VERY hot and has no pad, which is why I had to place so far from the kick.

The Neumann would be useful in more situations, since it has a roll off (guitars, male voices) a pad (kick drum, overheads) and does a figure 8 pattern (mid side, room mics, etc)

Let me know your thoughts.

Here for the gear
The clone has a better tone to me , but the u 87 has better dynamic response imo.
Im not a fan of the neumann u87...
Thanks for the video

Thanks. I found tone fairly similar, but yes, the ai seems to have a faster transient, a sharper attack on the guitar and kick.
