You're not crazy at all .... Congrats on crook wood. Looked up the crookwood after hearing another loopback test and absolutely would have bought that if I could but they were out of my budget so Lyra got me into this range for least amount money and the AD side is so good.

Would be helpful for people to also hear the original file for comparison.

Hmmm. That could have been a mistake. (I'm not 100% sure.)

First, high end converters will theoretically never improve with an external clock, and worse-case it can make things worse.

Second, if these units are to be used as the premier converter ina larger system, then we'd want to hear them with their individual clocks running things.

Of course, they probably all re-sync the external clock, anyway, but IMO this was a mistake.

Regardless, this is a great resource for us. I thank you profusely & eagerly await the .wav files!

@ Berndalen ,

Why not just post the link here? I'm sure pretty much everyone will want to listen in the highest quality possible. - And include the original .wav file as well, of course.

- thanks !

Here for the gear

Dear Berndalen,

Your efforts much appreciated!

However, the proper way to test AD quality of different converters would be to

1) Record pure analog sound using pure analog path to high-quality analog tape, without applying any digital conversions/mastering.
2) Feed analog input from tape to different ADCs.
3) Play back digital files from each converter on each converter (i.e. if you have 5 converters, then play 5 files on each of 5 converters).
4) Compare matrix of results.

Right now you are testing how well a subsequent converter cleans up digital distortions caused by the previous converters in chain.

Oh, and youtube is a very lossy format. Using Prism for youtube is like shooting movie in Panavision, and then distributing it on VHS.

There are many ways to do things that are good.

Your way would be a cool way.

But your last thesis is a classic that may be true for some, but not for me.

Why did I buy cameras for 5495 USD last month, and camera lenses this week for 3805 USD when I already had cameras and lenses that were good and that I made around 100 videos with ... when people still only watch my videos on youtube, and maybe most of all on mobile phones?!

Because I believe it matters.

Crap in, crap out....

Less crap in, less crap out....

You can still hear the differences well enough on YouTube despite the lossyness.

Same here.

I've asked before, but no response. Someone should re-up the files and provide a link here. That would be great.
