It was easy to spot B was the flat file. So with that set to the side, I was eyes closed going between A, C and D.

I honestly couldn't tell which was which. I don't own either plugin (interested in the Britson since I own Satson) so not entirely sure how I would guess identifying them - so it just came down to "OK well which one do I like the best?". I decided I liked C best but also happy with D.

Then I scrolled down and saw both of my favs were the Britson. Happy to know that!

Think I can hear a difference as well though they're very close... Would prefer Version A, somehow the drums sound more direct to me - just installed LUNA, hope it's it?

Also needed Slate VCC in comparison.

No, I was referring to the two examples of pure DAW summing - one in Reaper, one in LUNA - not the Neve summing. @ koenichsound added them later in the tread

So did you end up using it on both channel and busses (with routing), or only on busses?

Just busses. KONSOL or Lindell 80 for channels.

It's interesting to see how cautious everyone's responses were initially before the reveal, and how certain they are after the reveal...

I did my own blind testing with Satson and a bunch of nebula console programs. I could TOTALLY tell how nebula had that "3d edge"....until i blind tested.

I think I tested about 8 programs or combinations of programs across a range of source material and normally i picked one of the nebula first but Satson was always up there and I think overall averaged highest.

I love Nebula and can't mix without it but for console emulation with similar quality and no freezing I often just reach for satson. The filters are a major bonus.

Really interesting thread. I'm missing NLS from Waves in the comparison . I offer myself to bounce the track through it if you guys want.

I haven't been able to test Luna yet but personally, comparing the summing from NLS and Britson, I though the Sonimus plugin added more cohesion and harmonics to the mixes. Specially in Fat mode.

It's hard to tell the difference between A,B and D. Very similar.

C sounds the most "Neve" to my ears and has more obvious saturation. I have no idea if it's the sonimus or UAD emulation though.

It is the Sonimus Britson in FAT mode.

Blind listening with my limited skills and cheapy earbuds, my best guess was:
A - Favorite, would be so thrilled if it was Britson but I assume it's Neve, because Neve.
B - Flat. Guitar is noticeably less lively than the others.
C - Close second, there are an occasional snare or guitar stab that sounds nearly-but-not-quite as good as A. Guessing Britson.
D - Britson Fat.

Overall, impressed myself a bit with how close I was. Neve being A makes sense, flat being B is no great surprise, although still something that took me several listens to really be confident about. That said, I was really surprised that I mis-judged which of C or D was set to Fat! Sounds to me like Britson Fat is closest to Neve, though Neve does still have the slight edge. I'm okay with that - a few extra $100s buying someone who really cares about it a marginal gain on every 8th snare or guitar hit is no skin off my back and probably won't make the difference between a tune I'm proud of and one I'm not.

I'm definitely gonna check out Britson!
