Bits'n Volts - NEVE 1073 vintage vs DPD vs UAD

Dear all,

Have you ever wondered how preamps stack up and color a full mix? Then stay tuned, as I have recorded an entire song with a pair of vintage Neves, a Neve DPD and Universal Audio's Neve plugin. I will release the full mix of the song in the following weeks, but first a few raw files of its basic tracks will become available.

Today an extract of the drum part is released. It is the blend of one kick mic (AEA 44) and one overhead mic (Neumann M49).
Please forgive my playing, it's been quite a few years since I last practiced !

The process was conducted as follows:
Each instrument has been recorded with a maximum of 2 microphones/di.
A quality splitter has been used to feed the preamps.
The vintage Neves were units sold by Vintage King.
The analog out of both the Neve DPD and the Apollo Twin were used to feed my Pro Tools HD rig.

Thanks for your feedback (1, 2, or 3) !

Listening on headphones on my laptop in my living room, it's very hard to tell much of a difference. I'm inclined to think 3 has sharper transients, whereas 1 and 2 are smoothed out a little more. 2 seems the thickest and smoothest on the top, so I'm just going to hazard a guess that it's the vintage neve, putting 3 as the plugin and 1 as the ams neve.

Again, so hard to hear differences in this environment, so I could be totally off, and I don't have first hand experience with any of these units, but I enjoy these little shootouts. Thanks for sharing!
