Coles 4038 vs Fathead Lundahl JCF Normal vs PEP

Matched pair of Coles 4038s and Fathead I Lundahls.
Same position & 35 dBs of gain through BAE 1073 into a JCF Audio AD8 (Normal and PEP).
Mediocre at best drumming by me on a Pearl Reference.

Master Channel:
a) Mono maker in brainworx bx_XL V2 (compression isn't hit) -- center frequency adjusted by feel -- very non-scientific.
b) a little Massey L2007 for volume.

Mono Maker Frequencies:
Coles Normal: 143Hz
Coles PEP: 157Hz
FH Normal & PEP: 194Hz

PEP definitely seems to change the center frequency of the Coles and not the FH. I still don't really understand what PEP is or does... but it definitely seems to boost low mids, smooth out highs and make stuff feel more "together" -- I guess it makes sense that using it might alter the center frequency.
