Now, it was possible to perceive/hear that the Disto approaches the hardware and the other competitors very well... All the other tests that I had listened to were far away! Very good, Swan!

Great job Swan!

Actually it is impressive. Also looking at the waveforms (for what it is worth).

I want to underline how far the hardware settings in the pictures above sound from our units here. With that Attack setting we get piercing snare attack.

Anyhow, I like this one for 6:1 and similar Atk/Rls settings:

Disto-S 030001
Gain 0.8549999595 Volume 0.4499999881 Hipass 1.0000000000 Band 0.0000000000
Attack 0.3750000000 Release 0.4450000525 UK 0.0000000000 Hottitude 0.0399999991
Ratio 0.5714285970 Mix 0.0000000000 Auto 0.0000000000 HarmSw 1.0000000000
LinkSw 0.0000000000

(Snare peaking @ 11 dB GR)

Yes, happy audio times...

Here for the gear
Here's a shootout I did between the "Distressors":

YouTube

I my opinion, the biggest difference between the hardware and plugins is how the manage they low end. It is also less harsh.

What do you think?

If you care to guess.

Hey Flippy Floppy,

I always respect your A/B test and love your involvement with GS.
I hope I can get you and others here to be apart of this thread as well for people to hear your hardware through these drum loops to see how your hardware responds and also gives people a chance to hear different hardware and put it against their software if interested.

The Hardware Compressor Thread (With Electronic Audio Files)

Much Respect as always,

I wouldn't know where to start to match each clip to each comp, but I do have a strong preference for clip B, the bass drum sounded less overpowering and a bit more compressed, and the snare sounded less "muted" than in the other clips.
Clip A suffers from these things the most, and on a good pair of speakers I could probably reliably tell a difference between clip D to E, but on the earphones I'm using right now it would be a wild guess.
Thanks for taking the time to make and upload these clips!

Well, thank you I feel the same about your contribution to GS as well!

Cool! I’m in. I’ll check out your thread when I’m at the studio tomorrow. I have an early version Focusrite Red 3 that would sound good on drum loops.

Oh, that sounds nice. Is that the Focusrite Red 3 with 2 Transformers on both the input and output?

Can't wait to hear.

Thanks as always!!!

You bet! It’s a rare unit. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one years ago before people caught onto them.

Tried not to look at anyone else's answers but saw one person agree with me.

C sounds quite digital.

Out of A or B I'd guess that B is the hardware.

If C is Slate then **** me because I paid full price for that plugin and haven't invested in any UAD plugins yet.. Clearly one or the other of them is the winner. Would be interested to know if oversampling was enabled on the slate version during the test.

Edit: In regards to the order not being the same my answer primarly reflected listening to drum and bass when I listened at first. I kind of want to change my answer to A being the hardware. Looking to see if there are spoilers now.
