Hi thanks for this shootout, the attacks, releases and ratios changes are more apparents with the ssl so it is pumping and compressing more agressively whereas the masselec is more transparent with any settings. I prefer the masselec in this case. They both sound good tho, the ssl will surely shine with another genre of music and i'm curious to hear it on something like hip hop or rock
I prefer the masselec MLA 4.
After that test I sold my SSL Mynx bus comp.
Maselec sound sharp(I mean a knee) and finished to me.
SSL a bit soft and dark.
Bear in mind that tha Maselec was set like a single band. But if put it on multiband it kills everthings I listen.Period
I did have before Shadow Hills DV and ANL 54f50 stereo,SSL bus Mynx.all of them was sold.

MLA4 sounds like there is a veil on it. Pay attention to the tone of each instrument on the MLA4 vs ssl.
As u said, the MLA4 sounds finished but it's not what a bus comp is for. It's supposed to glue things not being a brickwall limiter .

You made the right choice, The masselec sounds tight and transparent and i don't doubt that in multiband mode it will kill everything (for those who like natural and organic music). Definitly will be on my must have gears!
