The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. DLR does Van Halen country jamboree style. aka - Strummin' With The Devil - Everyone on that stage was a professional and sounded great, except for one man. I would still like a chance to see him with VH, but sad, sad, sad...

I just wonder what Dave would have got if he'd won the bet.
I kept waiting for the punchline.

Always been about shtick with him ..to cover up that he's tone deaf. Not one note of singing is on pitch in VH when he was in it. Go re-listen, it's true.

He's a rockstar/entertainer not a virtuoso.

At least have the decency to place him within the proper context.

Vernier, are you sure not one note is on key?

Yeah, when has he not played the buffoon?

I'm still a fan. He's cast from the same stuff as the Smothers Brothers.

As mentioned elsewhere, he was the perfect foil to the too-serious VH Bros.

It's kind of like the Cheap Trick conundrum. Two dorky guys and two cool guys. Which do you think are the dorks?

Pitchy or not, within the rock genre his vocals on the VH albums sound more authentic and pleasing to me than most of the autotuned shouting/yarling of the last decade+.

I liked what he did in VH.The Leno deal with the pickin band(who sounded great by the way)was like watching a bad car wreck.I mean it was bad,but I couldn't take my eyes of it;very unnerving.

+1 for sure. I never even notice his pitch when I am rocking out to old VH records... I am too busy rocking out and singing along.

Where's Dan Quayle when you need him. Teenage suicides will be on the rise if this goes public.

Not on songs I heard. And harmony parts, usually too-sharp. That band was mostly about Eddie's guitar anyway. Interesting listening to it now ..there's serious Eventide on vocal, left side down a few cents, right side up ...that's Templeman making it work. But over all, I think VH needed Roth.

DLR will be performing with the bluegrass group on the Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson (performance) confirmed for June 8th and on The View (performance) (another sign of the sad state of affairs) confirmed for June 14th.

Wow, the band is great! As always with DLR, he should just tone down the "act" a little bit. If he would've sang the song a bit more appropriately for the style it might've worked better.

It's funny how Roth figures that as long as he's got some hot-shots backing him up he'll be OK. This has been his M.O. for decades.

Least we don't have to see the carpet that's always taped to his chest.

I thought his genuine enthusiasm and lack of artifice was fun and refreshing and the band were excellent. Anyone else notice how much like Neil Diamond he looked?

Btw, DLR is the man. I absolutely love him. Sense of humor, cool guy, knows his limitations. Seriously, I think he's up there with Freddie Mercury...one of the best front men of all time. Big deal if he's not Pavarotti - it's rock 'n' roll. VH was all about fun.

absolutely. Even though Sammy was/is 10x the artist I still like Dave better. I never saw VH w/ him and almost think if they get together and tour I wouldn't want to. I think he is past his prime (for instance see the current video) and would rather "imagine" what it would have been rather than seeing a train wreck.

It's kinda strange how well VH worked without DLR. Not my cup of tea with Hagar...but they still sold real well and they didn't have a Billboard no.1 until DLR quit which is kinda funny too.

I thought their only #1 was Jump w/ DLR

you know he was cut out of the same cloth that Axle (sp) Rose was cut from. Not a great voice but truly genuine in his character and totally rocked and then fell off the wagon and should have stayed there. I haven't listened to his radio show much but I wonder how long that will last. I know the country thing will crash hard... well actually don't you have to get off the ground to crash?

Well, they had six albums with Dave and 7 or 8 years of successful touring worth of momentum to build on ... it's speculation, but would Van Hagar have been as successful if the original Van Halen had never existed and the Sammy/Eddie lineup emerged for the first time in 1985?

I don't know if you remember, but #1 or not, and for better or for worse, VH with Dave were HUGE by the early to mid 80's. It was Eddie's/Alex's name on the band and, of course Eddie's guitar playing, but Dave was equally responsible.
