Once my Stagers arrive then I can contemplate more SDCs...
I have 3 84’s and I could see myself having 013’s as well.
Stagers are cool.
I have the big and little in’s

The SR-2Ns are really excellent! Been using the stereo one for drum rooms and it's brilliant - airy, open top but the kick presents as huge. The single SR-2Ns are a nice dark OH but also really big sounding as an M/S pair about 4' in front of the kick.

I also picked up a pair of the Soyuz 013fet. Yeah, those are ****ing incredible!

I'm happy to read you chaps are really loving the Soyuz 013 FET's. I've had my eye out for a reasonably priced set of SDC's and I hadn't really even checked these out until they were mentioned here.

Cheers!

I'm saving up for a Soyuz 013 FET within the next 3 weeks to record my Martin. Largely due to the great feedback from respected users and people posting clips. I figure my D28 deserves something better than a KSM137 or MK 012.

Stagers

Hey Rob,

Which Stager mic has replaced the Coles for you? Is it the smaller SR2N? Or one of the big boys?

Curiously,

Your pal Fritz

I guess I just wondering if there's any descriptive language you could use to help me understand how they differ sonically from the coles ... less tubby? a little brighter etc...

I haven’t actually side by side compared them. But I feel like I like the Stagers are more open.
With that being said, I have no problem using Coles.
I’m using one right now for a mono overhead. This particular drummer
We are recording is a basher so the ‘Darker’ coles are the better call in this case.

I've had one for a couple months; I use it all the time. I also have a pair of regular SR-2N and while they are both based on the same ribbon, I think the different bodies/grilles gives them slightly different voicings. This makes them more interesting to me as it's like having different mics instead of 4 of the same in two different configurations.
