The first mic I ever bought was a 57.
It got sold at some point, just like everything.

In fact, the only things that haven't gotten sold or stolen within the last 20+ years have been my sweet Ampeg SB12 and my pride and joy Kent amp.

Everything else I think I've owned for less than 5 years.

Rob, I was listening to Kurt Vile on the way to work this morning.
The kick and snare on that record (b'lieve i'm goin down) are so damn cool.
The contrast between their dry and consistent tone and all the swirling guitars etc is right on.

Been demoing a bunch of Soyuz mics the past week or so.
Tried the fet 013’s for overheads and I’m sold.
Love the snapshot they gave of my little drum area.
Kinda reminded me of an old pair of 84’s.
Sort of
Anyways that’s a great a mic.

Theyre also real good on SM7s.
I'd love for you guys to get an opportunity to hear the Integer RMP2. What it does for ribbons "and" dynamics is typically pretty great. Follow it with comps etc of choice and it's sweet. Affordable, and Dave is a first class dude as well.

I tried it on the vocal but it didn’t sound right on the artists voice.
The bomblet and the Sony C48,in this case, both were more complimentary.
Obviously, it’s a good mic but it was just one of those things where they didn’t match up.
I’m gonna try it on some other stuff.

Could certainly understand why it wouldn’t be the best choice is some vocal cases.
Would be good to hear your thoughts after trying it out a bit more.

I’ve got 4 next to a bunch of 70’s ones.

Waay better than the current api re issues
When you buy capi always get them with litz wire transformers.

Here is a definition
Litz wire consists of a number of individually insulated magnet wires twisted or braided into a uniform pattern with the primary benefit of reducing AC losses in high frequency windings

Maybe I need to swap out for Litz’s in my BT 50’s. I never really warmed up to them. ???

so it's not really like a 550A?

I have a pair of vintage 550B and want to experience the difference...

Like a cross btw a 550a and older 550
For me that’s a good thing.
The bt50 next to the new api 550a
No contest. The newer api sound anemic by comparison.
Try putting a kick drum through both and boost 50hz the same amount.youll get my drift.

At this point, I'd say yeah, absolutely. They get the call every time over the BT50's. But I'm still baffled as to why they get so much praise. Maybe it's the Litz transformers? Or maybe I'm just an oddball. heh heh

I'm not feeling that 50Hz thing, but I'm on older units that came out of Leon Russell's old API.....which later morphed into OHenry's massive API. Go figure,,,,,they swapped the old A;s for B;s.

Yeah Bill maybe it’s the litz adding the glitz.
Cause level matched they line up with my vintage 70’s ones.really close.
The newer re issues definitely not.just weaker less oomph

As an impulse buy, I optomistically tried out the new ART dual limiter MXR knockoff.

It's... it's.... going back.

maybe. I have no idea. I do know that transformers can certainly add some mojo to the equation. Have you tried Litz and standard models?

Haven’t tried the standard ones
I replaced all the stock transformers in my 1608 with litz
It was like having a new console
The low end blossomed end extended.
