Happy T-Give, all!

I've been playing with the Overstayer MAS (mix bus) and SVC (drum bus) for the last couple of days.
Love the MAS, I think.

The SVC is interesting.
I'm finding all the bells and whistles more useful than the actual compression.
Specifically, the harmonics section and the low contour button.
I know Rob and RB love the SFE on drums.
I'm starting to wonder if I should have tried that one out...

I see that on the SFE the harmonics section is only a button, as opposed to the SVC pot.
I suppose that you need to teak the harmonics on the SFE with the input level.

So... the MAS is sweet.
I don’t think I can send it back.

The svc is really great.
I’ve only tried it on drums.
Rob and RB, I know you guys love the SFE on drums.
What is it about the sfe that you would prefer it over the svc on drum bus?

I followed robs advice then messed w both at a trade show
Nothing analytical. The sfe sound and functionality just did something I liked more.

Thanks RB!
There’s a lot going on in the svc.
At first I wasn’t knocked over by it, but today I was able to break a mix open by just turning up the harmonica knob a bit.

Haha, harmonics knob

If I had the svc I’d probably use that a lot too. But instead I got the modular channel which is nuts.

As an aside, I was also reminded how good the daking stuff is.
Fet2 and eq are such solid pieces.

Haha, that’s awesome.
He is a super nice guy.

There’s something so highly-skilled-blue-collar about his gear.
Love it.

I had a pair of the eqs on mix bus today.
Kind of a pain in the ass, but totally worth it.

Fets on bass and vocal.
So good.

That thing is what sent me down the Overstayer rabbit hole.
Unfortunately, I need to maximize channels.
I’m just getting back into hardware after being in the box for the last few years.

Don't leave Jeff Turzo (Overstayer) out. He's been working on a console too.

Saw some rough renderings when I was there about 6 months ago.

Hopefully that's still in action...

Using his Imperial Channels?

Ugh, no more lusting... please!
I'm already sitting here wishing that I had 16 channels of his MAS.

It was too rough of a rendering to see.

But, I think Turzo is a genius (the stable kind---haha, I couldn't resist), and I could only imagine that he'd be inserting his take on EQ drive/harmonics into it, etc.

Possibilities are endless with him....

The Imperial channel = sell all your other gear.
The mod channel is really ridiculous expressive piece of gear.
And like all the more visually complicated overstayer stuff, once you make friends with it, which really isn’t that difficult,
You have something that is really malleable and creative.
From doing repair to tracks to elevating to another place.
Jeff also claims to make good pizza.

Oh man, Kamasi is cool nice Hunter!
What a great way to Demo ribbons.
How’d you like the KU4s and what did you use them on.
I really like that mic but it makes no sense for me to buy one.
And thanks for reminding me about those AEA mic pres.
Theyre also real good on SM7s.
I gotta get a KU5A but unfortunately been kinds down the guitar pickup and studio maintenance rabbit hole.
Sometimes you gotta fix stuff....
Joel at JW guitar restoration outside of philly makes impressive PAF style.
The guy is a super craftsmen and incredible luthier.

And just tried the Soyuz small diaphragm fet condensers on overheads.
Man they sounded good.loved the snapshot of my little drum area they provided.
Also I had a57 go bad, the transformer opened up, so rather then toss it away, I ordered the Crimson Audio yellow.
Really smoothed it out and chunked it up.
Still sounds like 57 but more refined and beefy.

Ku4’s sounded great on horns n strings
Specifically his sax.
100% zero things not to like about the sound.
wish I could afford one too.
Another amazing hand made PAF guy is Matt gleeson in the uk.
Monty’s Guitars is his company.
Young genius wiz kid who apprenticed with some heavy hitter luthier types over there.
I stuck a pair in a Chinese Les Paul I got on eBay recently and it sounds great

yeah it was kind of an experiment.
On eBay I found a sunburst les Paul made in China for 275 bucks.
Swapped the pick ups and pots.
The body and neck and finish are surprisingly good.
I’ve had guys play it literally think it’s a 100% real Gibson.

I was looking at those Crimson handles too, not sure to pick orange or yellow.

It's always really sad when an SM58 or SM57 dies. I wish I would have saved my SM58 but I did the refund replace thing with Shure service so now I have this brand new SM58 that has no mojo or sentimental value.

Never felt sentimental over a 57.
