Seems your reality tested findings get on ok with my assumptions based on having heard some files. Thanks! Good to know.

Anyways, I sent it in, it was fixed.
Just bring yours to a tech they will know what to do.
It's not rocket science.
But exercise all the pots and make sure they aren't crusty in there....

yes, it was in the end a broken wire. quite easy repair for my tech.
great preamp, used it last week on backing vocals with a Coles 4038, amazing, beside that it could have some more db gain for the Coles or a sm7b.
anyway, my go to preamp for vocals beside the chandler germanium.

thanks for the great tip rob! its a bargain!

For SM7 and Ribbons use a cloudlifter or the thing CAPI makes for extra clean gain before the preamp.
They work great.

I love the MA-5
Nice and thick.
As far as VP28 goes it just really Depends on the voice and the mic marriage.
And I never had a problem making a record entirely on an API.
But yeah if you have options then one usually sounds better on something then the other but not every time and never twice in a row.

Welcome to the world of the subjective.
It sounds great on bass drums gtrs vocals and anything else when the other things don't sound as good as they do at that time, on that day, with that artist, depending on how much coffee, beer or whatever you've consumed or not.
Youre welcome

No Iam not, have the first big Session with them, a slowdive like band recording live in the Studio. The avedis are sounding amazing with coles on the overheads. The best overhead sound i Ever got! Looking forward to use them on the overdubs for vocals and guitars.

Btw any ideas on getting a good distorted with a not too bright sound on a fender twin? It always Sounds amazing clean, and Thin and bright distorted, i know its the twin but maybe you got some advices.

Well depends on the twin.
The 70s twins just keep getting brighter and cleaner
And if it’s one with the ultra linear setup it’s just a loud clean machine.
But generally speaking
I usually pull the preamp tube from the channel not being used.
Try crankin it into a Marshall cab set to 4ohms.

thanks. gotta try next time the tube pulling thing.

its a new one. in the end we played a lot with the distortion pedals and got a not too bright sound. after all the basics are done, we will do some overdubbing with a marshall.

I like the rat(the old huge rectangular one). Crank the tone knob. It rolls back highs nicely.

The Overstayer Imperial Channel is really amazing achievement. Essentially its a condensed version of Jeff's various sauces put into a console strip.
Been mixing a record and using it one the snare and it's quite a marvel.

Agree they’re nuts.
Like everything greatest hits in a mini strip.
And all the patch points bonus.
Imagine a console full?

I just ordered a Modular Channel so I have to wait but the 877 system looks brilliant - the combination of features and the patch points on the back is a touch of genius. Later this year....

The channels literally eliminate the need for about 4 pieces of outboard.
The layout and implementation is brilliant.
Thinking 4 stereo pairs for console busses
