Anyways, they were my favorite mic and I thought one day I could buy one.
I had no idea how rare they were and never found one for sale.
When AEA started making these I was super excited.
Unfortunately, they ain't cheap.
What a great mic though.

Last nite we used the AEA R44.
I'm not here to plug this stuff but man, I really dig this mic too.
Then used the R92 on the ampeg Gemini and also on a little Supro.
I think I have a friend for my trusty buyer 160.

Also, yet another plug and caveat nobody is giving me gear I'm just trying stuff out here sharing my experiences, the Coil Audio mic pres are ****ing cool.
Both of them.
Killer gtr sound piggybacking them direct.
Two flavors Just spot on sonically and flexible.
was wondering about the R92.its meant to be voiced for gtr cabs?
the coil stuff looks really cool.I downloaded some test files.sounded great.
they look just like my little Mangasync tube mixer from the 50's.did you get the rack for vert modules or the rack mount 2 ch version?

Yeah the R22 is meant to be the 121 killer.
It's active.
We Had to move it back from the cranked AC-30.

I have the two channel coil with one of each style Pre in it.

Rob - as I'm edging closer and closer (theoretically ) to my ultimate setup, and tube pre/pre's are one of the final frontiers. I've got 64 channels of i/o now and moving to 80 later this year so I can have EVERYthing coming up on the patch bay and on Pro Tools inserts in my hybrid setup.

I've had my eyes on trying out the Coils. Which model is resonating with you more? I know, I know, probably both....

I would think you need to hear both.
They really are as described.
The Ef86 one is maybe more hifi or something.
And the other guy with the old metal 6J7/6C5
Is more triode warmth.
And when I say hifi I don't mean audiofile.
It's like a blackface and a tweed.
Clean or touch sensitive and hairy ala the NF control.
I'm not really gonna have them long enough to hone in on which would
Be a go to.
The novelty hasn't worn off yet.
Still enjoying them both.

Did they give you an active R92? The passive one was already perfect.

Been using the R22 all week.
Electric guitars
Acoustics
Banjo
Vocals
Piano.
change the distance to find sweet spot.

No I didn't but I'd like to hear the 84 and 92.
I'm really loving the R22.
Don't get me wrong the 44 and KU4 are amazing but
Out of my league price wise.
The R22 is affordable and isn't a sonic concession.

You have to try the 92. Its great on metal vocals and outside a kick drum too, and you have never heard a creamier electric gtr. Really dont skip it.

Rob,

I know you're a big fan of the LA3A. Wondering if you've come across anything in the clone world or anything that comes close to originals? Whether hardware or plugins or both.

You boys should check out the Serpent SA3a's. DIY though. His Chimera is supposed to be an exact single channel copy of the SA3a, but I've not heard it. I do have the SA3a's though, and they are probably my desert island compressor. They are ALWAYS used.

Would love to hear the Mohog 3A's and how they compare to the originals. The fact that they have the mods on the front panel are huge plus for me. The hf contour has become a big part of that unit for me.

They make an N22 and an R92, I think he was referencing the N22 because he mentioned that it was active.

the electrodyne dumps into the MCI at the 2 buss.
so its 16 extra mic/line with direct out and inserts
to be used however or not at all.

Conceptually similar to the CL only the Mogaine uses a transformer for part of the gain. Classic Audio Products, Inc.

Spent a few weeks with the new Manley microphone with the C37 style capsule
And Cat Power singing into it.
This is a great new microphone.
Really dug it.
Woody and warm.
Very unlike the other Manley mics.
Nothing negative about the other Manley mics, they are just a very different vibe.
Kinda bright, and not usually what I'm looking for in my world.
This new mic fit into my aesthetic very well.
Thumbs up.
Can't remember the model number think we had a prototype.
But it's a winner.

Wow sounds like a very cool mic, can't wait to hear it on her. Chan's back?! This is already shaping up to be an amazing year for music, especially after last year was so lackluster.
