Hi Rob, got a chance to meet you at Brian Lucey's place a few weeks back. Had a beer and seemed to dig my mix that Mr. Lucey played off my flash drive - so that was the highlight of my night!

Great piece of historical info there Rob, but I can't help but feel that there was one glaring omission:

1965 - Bob Dylan introduces The Beatles to pot.

Hey Rob, just saw Cass live, the keyboardist was actually getting what seemed the exact string sound of Opposite House from what looked to be a Roland Juno 06/60. Do you have any recollection as to what was used on the actual record: Mellotron or the Juno? You mentioned Mellotron a few pages back, just wanted to be sure if at all possible.

One more omission:

2000 - Rob Schnapf hears a demo of an unknown Australian band and helps kick off the last era of critical and commercial success in the recorded music industry until...

Question for Rob, if you can divulge. How did you get that sick distortion bomb on Sahara Hotnights' "Walk on the Wire"? I assume it's a pedal but I've never heard one quite like it, or at least not so well-recorded! Great job on that record, and on Dilly Dally. There's something bubblin' up...

Damn, Sahara Hotnights.
Deep cuts.
Honestly,
No memory of anything on that one.
Other than I just mixed it.

Dilly Dally is awesome.
I just saw them when they passed thru town.
They rocked

Hah, yep. That's what happens when you do a great job on a record. Eras come, eras go, but it continues to stand out and inspire. That song is an example of very bold choices for levels and I think some master fader manipulation. The way that distortion before the chorus pops seems like it might've been shaped in mixing with a really resonant narrow-ish EQ boost.

On the tip of new bands, have you heard Warehouse?
super low | Warehouse
I feel like they've been inspired by Dilly Dally but have a really original vision. Rob Schnapf would be perfect to help take Warehouse to the next level.

Oh man please, I think that Pelle might have had something to do with the way that Sahara Hot Nights record came out.
But like I said I don't remember details about it and don't even have a copy of it.
But I appreciate the props.
Anyways, never heard of Warehouse.
I'll check em out thanks for the tip.

Wes Dooley and the fine folks at AEA Have loaned me a bunch of mics to try out.
The KU4A is a beautiful microphone.
Used it on vocals last nite into a langevin AM-4.
About a foot back, Magical sounding.
Onto the R44 today.

Yeah back in the day I used to work on the scoring stage at paramount.
I was around these mics all the time. I knew them as 10001's not KU3A.
Anyways, they were my favorite mic and I thought one day I could buy one.
I had no idea how rare they were and never found one for sale.
When AEA started making these I was super excited.
Unfortunately, they ain't cheap.
What a great mic though.

Last nite we used the AEA R44.
I'm not here to plug this stuff but man, I really dig this mic too.
Then used the R92 on the ampeg Gemini and also on a little Supro.
I think I have a friend for my trusty beyer 160.

Also, yet another plug and caveat nobody is giving me gear I'm just trying stuff out here sharing my experiences, the Coil Audio mic pres are ****ing cool.
Both of them.
Killer gtr sound piggybacking them direct.
Two flavors Just spot on sonically and flexible.
