Been living with an infratronics 1176 for about a week.
Man it really sounds like an 1176.
Its a rev D.
The aggression is really there.
The gain structure feels right.
Dials in in familiar knob settings.
It reacts in a similiar way.
Really dig it.

How does it compare to the Mohogs?
I was thinking of adding a second Mofet but...now you got me thinking.

The mohogs are great.
Still lovethem.
But the gain structure seems different.
Or where younset the knobs in and out isnt like
An old 1176.
Also there is something about the infratronic that has
The aggression is so right.

We're doing an official launch here at ZenPro with the brand, I can tell you that the Infratronics Classic FET is built in the USA by a guy who is doing everything that can be done to deliver an affordable, modern REVISION D 1176 that doesn't pretend to be anything else. Everything down to the linking is painstakingly recreated to deliver what Rob is hearing.

Every component choice has been sweated over, profusely...trust me I've known him for 20+ years and he is satisfied with the unit now.

They are awesome, we have clips in our Clipalator compressor section now as well.

Rob,
What have you primarily been using the Infratronics on?
Best,

Hi Rob,
Thank you for the kind words and still glad you are digging the units. We have since changed the gain structure and It is just a matter of changing the output pot. You can pm me or email me and we will get them changed out for you.

Thanks again!
Brandon

just picked a pair of B&W 801 series2.
great image.
the bottom has great detail to it.
tight yet extended.
very interesting how you can hear into the mix.
listened to records and heard things id never heard before.
a little on the bright side but we are working on that.
some ideas to dial it in further are:
experiment with different power amp
(right now have modded phase linear on them.
its direct coupled and very fast.)
build L pad for tweeter to knock it back a touch
remove the APOC circuit.
swap S2 tweeter for 801 S3 tweeter
and of course there is the expensive north creek crossover which i am resisting.
open to other ideas if anyone has 'em.

No ideas, but have been casually looking for a series 3, so I can avoid the APOC.

Unless removing the APOC on a series 2 is easy and turns it into a series 3?

I am by no means an expert on B&W's.

Would be interesting to shoot 'em out against my JBL LSR32's (12" 3ways), unless you've already had experience with them? They are certainly not bright, probably too soft.

Someday, maybe get Doug to participate. Got Opals too. And Truth Audio (not the Behringer's!).

removing the APOC doesnt seem to hard.
lifting one side of the legs of the diodes.
shorting the relays.
i have a feeling a different power amp will be the first order of business.
and im always down for a shoot out.
its gotta have a 12" woofer to enter though.
and a 6 pack.....

Another round of power amp listening with the B&W 801s revealed the old but modded phase linear 400's to sound really good.
The bryston 3B good bottom but not so sweet on the top.
Adcom 555 solid
Audio research under powered.
Hafler P5000 forget about.
Wanna hear the mac 2105.
Boom

Did the DC across the speakers thing with Phase Linear 400's many times 25+ years ago. Yes, scary indeed Rob. I ended up dumping them. Couldn't take the carnage - even fused.

Gonna try 2x adcom 555's in mono block configuration.
600watts aside should be enough to push these 801s....

Hey Rob,

you mentioned somewhere in this thread that you'd heard the SSL 500 comp, any more thoughts on that? BTW, love the Compact 7's so much we got the mini versions for the B room.
