hey if you dont mind me asking whats the pay like and how hard is it to get a job as an architect in aus? just asking as its one of the things im thinking about studying as i really need a change of career.
also can the work get very mundane or is it generally pretty interesting?

^its a very long process! 3 years at university, a minimum of a year work experience, then another two years back at uni to get a B.Arch. Then a minimum of 2 years practice before you can sit professional exams to get registered...then you can be called an architect...and get sued if something goes wrong!
It can be tedious and repetitive, especially if you are doing CAD drafting. Im lucky that i started at a good firm when it was very small, 4 people, and now its 25-30 people, so i get to offload some of the stuff that is tedious to others Its not particularly well paid compared to engineering, but it pays the bills alright...and its usually pretty interesting. Its slow moving and you may end up working on the same project for a year...so it may not be great for some types of people.

Audio-visual support coordinator at a University.

Was working here before I finished my Sound Design degree, then just slipped into a full-time position.
So I've never actually never tried to get sound design job with my degree. (something I think about but I guess it wouldn't be stable work).
I do post for short films (done about 7 outside of Uni) but of course have not been paid for one yet.

Played Guitar in a Sludge band
Bass in a hip hop band
SH2 in a improv krautrock band
all have gone a bit dormant now - not that they ever made money.

senior electronic/electrical design engineer.

A very fun and creative job, and I love that there's all these little things I designed or helped design out there in the world, doing their thing every day..... but can also be very stressful when you are part of a project that's behind schedule or just plain not working for whatever reason.. It's very obvious when an engineering project isn't happening to plan, and not really any way to spin it.

I sell to several chains, but I also do work for museums, the FBI, Secret Service, and all branches of the military. I recently acquired a real human skull, and I made a mold off of it. I'm going to paint them up and start a new line of Dia de los Muertos inspired work. While sometimes I do get stuck working twelve hour days, most of the time I get up when I want, work about six hours, then have the rest of the time off for music and my fine art painting.
I love painting too, I am trying to push myself to become pro, even though I am pretty noobish at the moment. But I would love to do it proffessionally one day.

For the time being, I am just trying to learn as much as I can. I am more interested in digital painting , 3d and combining it with music making at some point.

Music is and always has been my greatest passion. Unfortunately I have the musical talent of a guppy so I was never destined to become a musician. It is a very nice hobby though and I do love to muck around in my modest home studio

I do things like that for myself occasionally...

but if you're talking about running my own company, well I really don't have the patience to do the consumer support, marketing, and all the other crap that would also be required for something like that...

The best bit is that my patrol car has a really good sound system in with a built in mp3 player. Great for checking mixes etc whilst driving around the countryside from job to job.

yeah - that bit is good fun.

I got two old 50s line amps this week.. big fat transformers and beautiful resistors and caps and a bunch of valves. will be really nice when they're part of something useful in a studio. possibly make a nice gain stage for a pultec-alike.

I honestly don't know how Johnny p and simonator dj for a living it would b good if you made a grand or more a gig for a while but I'd start to hate it when it became a "job" and you needed it for the bills. I've got a once a week residency and at times I start to hate it and feel like I need a break. But that could be due to the 45 hour week I work then Friday night I'm off to the club
Sometimes it feels like a job, but I do a lot of great gigs that make it worth it.. I'm making great money doing what I do and I really can't complain.. I have 5 full days a week to work on tunes etc.. Way better than being stuck at a desk 9-5 IMO.

It helps being in the right place. The area I live in would not be conducive at all for a full time DJ job. Our local "DJs" are hacks and people around here don't give a damn about original electronic music.

Pretty much the same here really.. I play a lot of gigs that dont inspire me yet I still play music I love.. I could never play **** I cAn't stand I.E. David Guetta, otherwise I'd feel like a proper *****! Like I said the good gigs make up for it. I just constantly think of what I can buy with the cash I'm making (synths mostly) all of my friends who work 9-5 hate what they do and I can't say that in the slightest.. There is no doubt there are ocupational hazards that come with the job which can put a lot of strain on relationships, but I just couldn't see myself doing anything else.. Except for post work in film which seems quite hard to get a foot in the door. I've done my deploma at SAE, but jobs are few and far between.. Shame )o;
