That was my trade the last decade, but I started out as a classical musician with a penchant for jazz and rock. Later had 12 jobs and 13 accidents (Dutch expression - I gather you get the drift) in wildly different lines of work.

I'm a composer & classically trained pianist. While studying jazz and music production on my own after university to complete a functional education, as an early computer adopter wiz kid I worked in various computer-related day jobs to pay my bills. It let me amass the most impressive synth rig in town.

With decades of IT troubleshooting trial-by-fire, however, I came to see the computer industry largely as a scam. Without innovating anything major since we started creating 2D content in PageMaker 1 in the 80's, every year they peddle another, more hobbled repackaging of the last CPU/OS and hail it as an effing breakthrough. On moral grounds I can't see myself being a part of this anymore.

So I'll soon try to spread my wings as a full time composer and see if I'm able to fly. If not - well, that's why I'm reading this thread, what other artists do :-)

Mechanical Designer for 18 years, mostly in aerospace. I work behind a desk running CAD software all day in an office with a team of mechanical and aerospace engineers. Let me tell ya' they can be a real PITA, argumentative bunch! Anyhow when I get home I don't even want to look at a computer monitor or TV for that matter. But I DO have the recording bug so here I am.

Me too, actually.

After a lifetime of outdoor work I finally got a good desk job. I now spend my days helping folks solve their sound control problems. I run the technical department for a large and venerable company that has made a sound board since around 1909.

I am a teacher with Teach For America. I go into low income schools and force kids to actually take control of their lives lol. Currently teaching 6th grade math, and about to start offering an extracuricular music recording class as well as a intro philosophy class.
