Are you surrounded by "Flashing 12" people?

Definition

A “Flashing 12” is a person with no technical inclinations – the name comes from the fact that when you walk into their house their VCR is Flashing 12:00, because they can not figure out how to program it.

I have to admit to only RECENTLY getting my VCR to work...(this is after moving house 3 years ago)

Scart routing on modern TV's - man I swear you need to be under the age of 35 to understand how they work....

sometimes I refer to things going "88" -meaning haywire- because when something is really wrong a lot of displays will light up all the LEDs creating an 8 at every position.

I teach an audio class in a community college and every semester I get a couple of flashing 12's. There should be a prerequisite- something like Introduction to VCR Programming- before you can sign up for Audio I. The real "12"s would flunk out and never make it to my class, saving us both a lot of trouble.

Hey Jules. I'm very technical, but my VCR flashes 12:00 because it's plugged
into an outlet strip which gets turned on and off all the time, sending it back
to 12:00 when the power is removed.

what is this VCR you speak of?

all my time clocks now get their time via outside sources... cable box gets it via the cable line, clocks in the house get it from satellite. plus i dont keep too many clocks... only my thermostat has one, my cable boxes, my over and microwave [although im not sure of their purpose] and my wifes alarm clock.

they are all set to their proper times.... automatically.
