Need help identifying this song from the early 80s

Hey, guys. Please help me identify this song. It's been stuck in my head since childhood and it's starting to drive me a nuts! I vaguely remember hearing it on TV in the early 80s on public access TV and in hold music, commercials, etc. I think it must have been cheap and/or royalty-free music and it was kind of everywhere for a couple of years. I've searched YouTube endlessly for 70s hold music, elevator music, Muzak, 80s hold music, etc. Can't find anything. Anyway, I recreated the melody in Garageband today just so I could post this message and hopefully solve this decades-long mystery. Have a listen and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Frank Mills - Music Box Dancer . 1979

"Music Box Dancer" is an instrumental piece by Canadian musician Frank Mills that was an international hit in the late 1970s. It features an arpeggiated piano theme in C-sharp major (enharmonic to D-flat major) designed to resemble a music box, accompanied by other instruments playing a counterpoint melody as well as a wordless chorus. (Most modern piano music sheets have the song in the key of C.)

Mills wrote and recorded "Music Box Dancer" in 1974, but it did not become a single until December 1978.

A few notes are missing in the third repeated introduction to the main melody, which could not be corrected, as Mills did not have the funds to record another take.

Thank you for solving this for me, man. This is honestly kind of thrilling. I'm not joking, I've been trying to track down this song since the early days of YouTube, so around 15 years. Nice work and thanks again!

Thankyou. I tried to use 'Shizam' first on your sample but it didn't work.

I knew the melody so I just went into my memory bank (my brain)
and three words came out 'Music Box Dancer'.
Then I searched it on YouTube and there it was.

Kind of has a similar vibe to Elton John's 'Song for Guy'-

That is the pervasive earworm, isn't it? I never knew it had a name, but that's the song the local icecream truck has used for the last 15 years or so. Haven't heard it in a while, but there's no forgetting it...

ever.
