My 5-year badge!

Well, I just had a PM from @ Jules to inform me that I've officially been on GS for 5 years.

I'm still trying to work out whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I thought you were going to say it was five years “clean” off Gearslutz or not buying any new gear.

Aww, that's nice of you to say so.

I'm clearly not trying hard enough to annoy people on here!

Yeah, that's a bit much. Can we change that?

"Lives for the online company" would be more accurate.

Krisst, that sounds desperate.

Only just noticed they go to 10 too. (or 11 if you are Nigel Tufnel)

Mine is teetering on 10 then.

Only seems like yesterday I jumped off HC KSS onto GS.

Yeah, yeah I was here then too in 1963. When the internet was a long piece of string with a paper cup at each end.

Yes, we had to code the entire forum ourselves every time we wanted to post a new post, as there was no way of saving back then. But we didn't complain.

Yeah, I remember the forum back then... all done by mail. No vintage synth arguments. That’s when it really had meaning!

Grumbling about Behringer doesn't have the same allure if you have to buy stamps first.

100%.

IMO, this forum really turned to **** in '68 and '69 when the Carlos clones started signing up in droves. Every other thread being something like "What modules did Carlos use to make such and such sound" and "where can I learn to compose like Johann Sebastian Bach, I want to make a switched on album next weekend, already booked 5 hours of studio time." Some of us who'd been around for a while nearly quit the whole thing then.

And then, a decade later, we had to deal with the hordes of preset surfers who had gotten it into their heads that they were "musicians." "The Prophet 5 is the most excellentest synthesizor, what sound is your favourite???" and so on and so forth. It just killed me. As if real electronic music can be made with presets. Anyone who owns a patch memory synth is automatically disqualified from being taken seriously, obviously, but that didn't stop those kids from posting about it all.

The only reason I stayed around is that foruming is my passion in life. I want to become a celebrity on the forum. Make my grandkids proud. And so I have to stay the course, no matter what kind of clowns show up here with their stupid ideas about "digital" and "MIDI" and "saving patches" and all that junk.

I know! And all the extra postage I used to have to buy to send my long rambling posts out! Good thing movies were five cents!

It’s been proven that markodarko and I are the same person, so that means we actually have 15 years + on this forum, so take that!

Felt a bit indignant as I don't remember getting one of those PMs, then started wondering if I've even been on here for 5 years. Went back and checked, I did get the PM - 4 years ago Time flies eh!

Went to college in the 90's. Had a job then too. Don't fancy doing either again soon if I can help it.
