Unhappy RIP Joe Zawinul

Just heard it on the news this morning: Jazz legend Joe Zawinul passes away today, he was 75. Another great one gone, but his tunes will live forever! Is there any tune more beautiful and haunting than 'A remark you made'?

RIP, Joe

What an imprint he left in his life. I remember the first time I "got" what was going on with the Weather Report album, Black Market. At first I didn't understand it, almost dismissed it and then there was this one time a short while later when I'm giving it another chance and BAM - I got it. It was an OMG moment. Like an epiphany. I heard the brilliance. And then I started 'getting" alot of other stuff. So influencial a keyboard player. Such monster chops. So different than others. Going to miss him on the planet.

Nice quote
"Joe Zawinul was born on July 7, 1932 in earth time, and on September 11, 2007 in eternal time. He lives on," APA quoted Erich Zawinul as saying.

i had the opportunity to spend a day with him... so memorable.

he always seemed healthy and kind of ageless to me...

RIP Josef Zawinul.

that's exactly what happened with me. I heard black market and likewise 'didn't get it'. It's my favorite album now and the title track !!! - I could listen to it all day long. I saw him about a dozen times and each time was stunning.

What a bummer!
I met Joe Zawinul some years back, when I used to work at a live music club where he appeared (the "Atlantis", here in Basel). He was very friendly, no attitude at all, and very serious about his music, but always with a humorous twist.
Thinking back now, I feel richer for this encounter.
Two days ago, there was a TV show about european jazz entitled "Do your own thing", where he was also mentioned.
