RIP Little Richard

Watching this video of Little Richard jamming out in 1956, I noticed this unique bass guitar that his guy is rocking in the back line. Does anyone know what this is? Is that a Hofner?

Just read about it too.

He was one of the legends. Rest in peace.

It always pained me that Pat Boone had bigger hits with his songs.

"I am the originator. I am the emancipator. I am the architect of rock n' roll. And I want you to know that rhythm & blues had a baby and someone named it rock n' roll. " - Little Richard.

An incredible performer that influenced more than a generation.

Amazing character!

I suggest without him there would be no Rolling Stones. I bet Keef says so too.

This is a long life in rock n roll terms imho.

Thank you for the music that will live on forever.

Inventor of rock.

And also the only one who could sing it right.

Several factors makes him "THE rock vocal" ..complex tone, and timed vibrato to the tempo. Only he could do this.

Anyway, I was there, had Tutti Futti 45rpm in 1956 and played it endlessly.

RIP Richard Wayne Penniman (aka) Little Richard ! !

What an amazing artistic career.

Just reading the wikipedia on his life, you go down the rabbit hole of links off to other fascinating stuff. I've just discovered Brother Joe May, one of his main influences: if this guy was his musical dad, it's easy to see how teenage Little Richard happened in the early 50s.

Then there is J&M Studios in New Orleans where he recorded Tutti Fruitti in 1955; the studio was a 15x15' room in an 1820 federal-style building with Presto vinyl cutting machines. What a time.

A true original. So amazing. RIP Little Richard!

The bass in the video is not a Hohner. It is a Gibson EB-1 solid body violin bass.

Another icon lost. His passing leaves Don Everly of the Everly Brothers the sole remaining living member of the first class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Aeternum vale Richard; cursum perficio. Bonum certamen certavi, cursum consummavi, fidem servavi.

I was hanging out at Cotten Music in Nashville one day and looked out the window and across the street I saw Little Richard taking his laundry to the cleaners. It was a nice moment - seeing royalty and being reminded that we're all just people. I wanted to go say hello but felt it better to let him be.
