We've most certainly lost one of the true greats and there are so few.
Inspired so many.

She's with Marvin on the night shift now. But she was in that last great group of fantastic artists who were discovered by the true pros and true music biz greats. We will likely never have artists like Aretha again. I can't think of any of the chicks singing today that even come close to Aretha's voice and presence. All we've got these days are auto tuned bimbos shaking tits and ass while lip syncing crappy pop turds.

I feel so lucky to have lived in a time with such great singers, Janice, Aretha.... many others....singers that had a voice that nobody can ever duplicate. Astonishing talent. Sad to see them go but glad they were here.

Condolences to her family. She will live on forever.

R.I.P Aretha

She made a (great) Gospel album on Chess at age 14 I believe. Even with her unbelievable talent, success was not immedeate though as her early 60s recording on Columbia were good but misdirected didn't really capture her essence. It all happened on Atlantic records eventually where she found herself. And she was a killer piano player as well.

Bank on it.

Not a one today that can hold a candle to her. Oh there might be one "out there" somewhere, but of course they won't "fit in" today, so we'll likely never hear of them.

I have a George Benson record somewhere where she and George do a duet. High altitude stuff.

Thanks for helping Soul and Pop vocal development to get a huge higher level, showing the way to new singers, and the passion in every song.

Miss you Aretha. This is a great song! The late, great, Clarence Clemons on saxophone. I think she was one of the greatest songbirds of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Hopefully she’s jamming in heaven with Marvin Gaye and some other singers.
Nowadays everyone likes Ariana Grande, who is just a wannabe Mariah Carey who doesn’t have soul, and Miley Cyrus, who should’ve quit after Hannah Montana.
