Any news as to how it happened?

His minimalist approach to orchestral music was a much needed trend in film.

He would have been perfect for Dune.

Ah, this would explain his departure from the new Blade Runner movie soundtrack.

Damn, RIP.

I hope he didn't become despondent after being replaced on Blade Runner 2049 and do something awful.

Is there a news report that this was related to addiction of some kind? Can you link it? I haven't found anything with a cause of death yet.

The sad thing is that his discography and composition history is complete and final. I hope they respectfully scour his unreleased music and share it with his fans. Then again, I'd hate for someone to release my demo sketches when I'm gone. But he's on another level than me.

I hope that he was working on Dune before he passed. Would be a treat to hear his ideas.

Bladerunner 2049 felt like a remix rather than an original score. The whole film felt like a remix. Hans is great though, but I doubt he had much to do with it.

Unverified at this point, but apparently he was missing for a few days and was found dead in his Berlin apartment.

So sad to see such talent disappear from the world at such a young age.

If its anything like most other artists' posthumous releases, it'll just make people hate his music.

Really sad news, and I hope it was due to something untimely like heart failure instead of something really tragic like suicide or overdose.

If nothing else I hope his score for Blade Runner 2049 ends up seeing a release as a result of this tragedy. I was really looking forward to his fresh take on BR and was pretty bummed that the final release had the (good, but adequate and predictable) Vangelis score.

Gone too soon. RIP Jóhann.

I somehow suspect this. He might have felt like the Salieri to Hans Zimmer's Mozart.

Unlikely. BD 2049 soundtrack was one of the lamest things I've heard in recent years ( and I'm no Zimmer hater, I've enjoyed several of his soundtracks ). It's sounds like what an amateur who just bought his first synth would make. It's impossible that J.J soundtrack would be worse.

R.I.P Jóhann.
