New Sweetwater GearFest 2018

Sweetwater GearFest 2018

Sweetwater will present GearFest ’18, the largest music instruments and audio gear trade show open to the general public in the United States. It will take place Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Sweetwater campus, 5501 US Hwy 30 W, Fort Wayne, Indiana. GearFest is free and open to the public.

Spread out over more than ¼-million square feet, GearFest combines a gear expo, entertainment events, a musicians’ flea market, and musical demonstrations. It also means two days of the best deals ever on the best music instruments and pro audio gear available.

Sweetwater Founder and President Chuck Surack said, “GearFest is unique in being free and open to musicians and audio enthusiasts, unlike most trade shows, which are held for manufacturers and retailers. We’re particularly proud that GearFest has such a reputation that it is now bringing people from literally all over the world to Sweetwater’s campus in Fort Wayne.”

GearFest will feature the newest instruments, music technology, and audio equipment on display in dozens of tents and several semi-trailers. Attendees can enjoy one-on-one time with master guitar luthiers, drum builders, microphone designers, acoustic engineers and many more.

Other highlights include a display of the ZZ Top Eliminator Car presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, free guitar restringing, and Sabian cymbal hammering demonstrations.

A multitude of producers and performers will host workshops continuously on five different stages. They include multi-platinum engineer Rich Chychi, drummer Russ Kunkel, producer Fab Dupont, and Grammy award winner Buddy Miller.

To see a full list of presenter bios, go to: http://www.sweetwater.com/gearfest/presenters.

Friday’s finale at the Sweetwater Performance Pavilion is a workshop/performance: D’Addario Live with Adrian Belew at 5:00 p.m. A Customer Appreciation party for all attendees will follow, including a concert by Sweetwater’s house band, the Sweetwater All Stars, joined by special guests.

Special GearFest features include hourly giveaway drawings for free gear totaling more than $70,000. Attendees can enjoy great food from Sweetwater’s Downbeat Diner and the Crescendo Café and a generous selection of the region’s most popular food trucks will also be on site.

The entire GearFest ’18 schedule of events is available online at: https://www.sweetwater.com/gearfest or call (800) 222-4700.

Now in its sixth year, the annual Brighton Modular Meet returns to the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.

Visitors can see a wide range of audio and video modular synthesizers on show, from developers and manufacturers that range from small one-man-bands all the way up to large and long established companies, as well as synths designed and built by artists, musicians and DIY enthusiasts.

Bring your gear to the modular meet, and mingle with like-minded modular synth enthusiasts, developers, manufacturers and resellers.

New 2018 AES International Conference on Spatial Reproduction

2018 AES International Conference on Spatial Reproduction - Aesthetics and Science

Dates: August 7th-9th, 2018 (with pre-event on 6th)
Location: Tokyo, Japan

Many practical technologies have been developed in the area of spatial audio since the last international conference in Tokyo, AES International Conference on Spatial Audio —Sense the Sound of Space—, was held in 2010. We have managed to handle the technology and used it to create countless works since then. In the light of such technology-driven content creation, it may be the time to address ourselves to the aesthetics in audio production.

The committee is expecting discussions in the following topics:

How can the Spatial Audio technology contribute to music and other artistic productions?
What technologies and scientific knowledge are expected from musicians and the content creators?
What are the keys for connecting Science and Aesthetics in this area?
