Moog Artist Livestreams: Week of 4/6

Check out this week's schedule of artists taking over our Instagram page for "Synthesize Live." All events this week will take place at 6PM Eastern Time.

Tuesday, 4/7: Composer and improviser Bryan Noll (aka Lightbath) brings his background as a music educator and meditation instructor to you with a Matriarch-centered meditative set.

Thursday, 4/9: Modular synthesist Bana Haffar takes electronic sound to unexplored realms with the full family of Moog semi-modular analog synthesizers (Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother-32, and DFAM) and her Eurorack system.

Saturday, 4/11: Classic and modern Moog sounds coalesce in a live Minimoog Model D and Grandmother performance by electronic artist Jeremy Malvin (aka Chrome Sparks).

In cooperation with the Sennheiser SoundAcademy, Neumann will be offering detailed webinars on the basics of microphone technology over the coming weeks. In three one-hour sessions, trainer John McGregor will discuss all important aspects of Neumann studio microphones: Starting with the most important theoretical principles, through practical tips and application hints, to product care and maintenance.

As we all take care to stay safe and stay home, this is an excellent opportunity to expand or refresh one’s skills and knowledge. The first session will be available on Friday, April 3 at three different times (8.30, 13.30 and 18.00 CET). The other two sessions will follow on April 17 and 24. On Thursday, April 9 at 2 PM EDT (20:00 GMT+2) we have planned a chat with Whit Norris a well-known individual in the film sound industry.

Whit has worked on film sets as a production sound mixer for over 30 years. He has mixed sound for over 100 films, television shows and commercials and has worked with directors such as Ron Howard, Adam McKay, Todd Phillips, Seth Gordon, Kevin Smith, Justin Lin, Peter Berg, Drew Barrymore and Ridley Scott.

Nationwide training and certification program offers intensive audio training classes

Introduced in February with its first classes in Van Nuys, California, Allen & Heath Academy offers attendees formal training spreading across a broad range of Allen & Heath products as well as live sound practices in general. Presented by Allen & Heath USA in cooperation with its regional network of independent sales representatives all across the country, the workshops are based around in-person academy training as well as online testing, all of which lead to official certification and AVIXA CTS RUs.

We’ve intentionally given this program some real depth in terms of its size, scope, and content,” Allen & Heath USA Marketing Manager Jeff Hawley said. “It’s all part of our company efforts to advance the entire industry’s knowledge base not only on dLive and our other trendsetting products, but on new ways of thinking about workflow and networked systems in general.”

Skilled audio professionals and legendary touring sound veterans are leading dozens of academy sessions that have already attracted hundreds of attendees this season. Notable among the group is featured presenter Michael Bangs, whose 20+ year career includes experiences as a monitor engineer and production manager for A-list acts including Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Katy Perry, Tom Petty, Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. An early advocate of live digital mixing, Bangs assisted a multitude of others in making the transition from analog in the early 2000s. A pioneer in surfaceless mixing that naturally gravitated to Allen & Heath, he built a close relationship with the manufacturer and ultimately joined the company to provide support to those on the road using dLive mixing systems.

“Being part of the Allen & Heath Academy offers me the unique opportunity to meet and work with some of the brightest engineers in our industry,” Bangs said, commenting upon his role within the training initiative. “We have a lot to offer everyone with these classes beyond simple certification—this is a chance for anyone who’s serious about their work and career to truly expand their skills, learn new techniques, and strike a creative spark within themselves and among their peers.”
