New Allen & Heath Academy Now in Session

Allen & Heath Academy Now in Session

Nationwide training and certification program offers intensive audio training classes

Introduced in February with its first classes in Van Nuys, California, Allen & Heath Academy offers attendees formal training spreading across a broad range of Allen & Heath products as well as live sound practices in general. Presented by Allen & Heath USA in cooperation with its regional network of independent sales representatives all across the country, the workshops are based around in-person academy training as well as online testing, all of which lead to official certification and AVIXA CTS RUs.

We’ve intentionally given this program some real depth in terms of its size, scope, and content,” Allen & Heath USA Marketing Manager Jeff Hawley said. “It’s all part of our company efforts to advance the entire industry’s knowledge base not only on dLive and our other trendsetting products, but on new ways of thinking about workflow and networked systems in general.”

Skilled audio professionals and legendary touring sound veterans are leading dozens of academy sessions that have already attracted hundreds of attendees this season. Notable among the group is featured presenter Michael Bangs, whose 20+ year career includes experiences as a monitor engineer and production manager for A-list acts including Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Katy Perry, Tom Petty, Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. An early advocate of live digital mixing, Bangs assisted a multitude of others in making the transition from analog in the early 2000s. A pioneer in surfaceless mixing that naturally gravitated to Allen & Heath, he built a close relationship with the manufacturer and ultimately joined the company to provide support to those on the road using dLive mixing systems.

“Being part of the Allen & Heath Academy offers me the unique opportunity to meet and work with some of the brightest engineers in our industry,” Bangs said, commenting upon his role within the training initiative. “We have a lot to offer everyone with these classes beyond simple certification—this is a chance for anyone who’s serious about their work and career to truly expand their skills, learn new techniques, and strike a creative spark within themselves and among their peers.”

Beyond touring FOH and monitor engineers, consultants, integrators, house of worship production team members, and those within the rental community, all stand to gain by enrolling for academy sessions. Most sessions are free to attend. To obtain Allen & Heath Academy dates and locations as well as all other registration details, visit: http://bit.ly/allenheathacademy.

The Next Evolution: MIDI 2.0 and the Future of Music

12:00 PM ET July 8, 2020 (RSVP for Meeting Link)

MIDI 2.0 is here, promising an unlimited future of electronic music creativity. The original MIDI protocol led to a massive evolution in music: finally instruments and computers could talk to each other. It’s behind everything from the home recording boom to flying drones that light up the sky with synchronized LEDs. MIDI was so ahead of its time, it has remained at the heart of music tech innovation for 40 years without a major update. What evolution will the new standard spark? This webinar features many of the industry players who helped develop MIDI 2.0 with the cooperation of many of tech's biggest companies (Google, Apple) and music tech companies (Yamaha, Roland). Find out why and how MIDI 2.0 was developed, what its new capabilities are, and what its future promises.

“Successful Smart Speakers and Voice-Enabled Products” Free AES / APEI Webinar July 9

— The Audio Engineering Society’s first Audio Product Education Institute event will address real-world experiences in Voice Integrated Product Development with the theme “Successful Smart Speakers and Voice-Enabled Products” —

New York, NY, July 2, 2020 — "Today, some of the most sophisticated voice processing is already in our pockets. Smartphone production numbers are hard to beat in the consumer electronics industry,” says Mike Klasco, CEO, Menlo Scientific, and committee member of the Audio Product Education Institute (APEI), a new Audio Engineering Society initiative. “This fiercely competitive market is driving continuous product design improvements, but many companies are also repeating many painful mistakes and are forced to re-learn audio fundamentals long recognized by the audio industry. I’m faced with highly instructive examples of that in my consultancy business,” continues Klasco. In the APEI’s free introductory webinar, the first in its Interactive Voice Con event series and conceived to share real-world experiences in voice integrated product development, Klasco and fellow industry veteran and APEI founding member Paul Beckmann, CTO, DSP Concepts, will share challenges they have faced in developing sophisticated interactive smart speaker products.

Themed “Successful Smart Speakers and Voice-Enabled Products,” the Interactive Voice Con webinar will be held July 9, 4:00PM – 6:00PM Eastern Daylight Time. Topics addressed will cover disciplines in voice-integrated products, from acoustics to microphones, electronics, DSP and output transducers. Free registration for the event is now open at https://tinyurl.com/AES-APEI.

New 2020 AES Audio Education Conference

* CONFERENCE RESCHEDULED *

NEW DATES: JULY 22-24, 2021

Current global conditions make it impossible for the Audio Education Conference to proceed as planned this summer. Therefore, the full three-day conference in Tennessee will be delayed by one year. Though we must wait to meet again in person, the program of workshops, papers and special events in 2021 will be stronger and more relevant than ever. Meanwhile, we are developing plans for an online symposium, on or near the original conference dates, with a series of presentations about remote delivery of audio and music instruction. Information about this online event will be posted here and distributed through AES social media channels as the details become available.

The AES will continue to monitor the status of the Coronavirus pandemic throughout the year ahead, and we are committeed to protecting the health and safety of the communities where we live and serve by following the requirements of all relevant local, state and federal authorities. Please stay informed and review the recommendations for your own personal protection at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

New WAMCON VIRTUAL RECORDING ARTS CONFERENCE

WOMEN’S AUDIO MISSION TO LAUNCH FIRST EVER WAMCON VIRTUAL RECORDING ARTS CONFERENCE JULY 24-25

Speakers and panelists include award-winning producers and engineers for artists including Beyoncé, Madonna, Janelle Monáe, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Van Halen & more

Women’s Audio Mission (WAM), a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women and gender non-confirming (GNC) individuals in music production and the recording arts, will present WAMCon Virtual, the organization’s first online immersive recording arts conference from July 24-25, 2020.

This year, in response to the current health pandemic, WAM has moved its conference to an online setting for the first time. WAMCon Virtual will deliver WAM’s leading panels, workshops and live demos in a safe environment and accessible format that will kick off on Friday, July 24 with the legendary women recording engineers that shaped the sound of one of the most iconic artists of our time, Prince. “Engineering Prince,” features Lisa Chamblee (Prince, Stevie Wonder), Sylvia Massy (Prince, Tool, Johnny Cash), Peggy McCreary (Prince, Booker T. Jones, Van Halen) and Susan Rogers (Prince, David Byrne). Friday’s keynote will be followed by a full day of workshops with special guests including mix engineer Marcella Araica (M.I.A., Madonna) and front-of-house engineer Amanda Davis who tours with Janelle Monáe, Chloe x Halle and Tegan and Sara.

“Each year we look forward to connecting to women and GNC individuals across the country through our WAMCon conferences,” said WAM Executive Director Terri Winston. “Given the challenges of the current environment, we worked hard to ensure we were able to deliver the same stellar, immersive training experiences with this year’s online event. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate and learn from the hands-down best music industry professionals in the business to inspire the next generation of music producers and audio professionals.”

WAM trains more than 2,000 women, girls and GNC individuals a year in music production and the recording arts to address the critical lack of women in the audio industry (less than 5%). WAM’s immersive experiences and transformative online programs have spread internationally, providing women with access to top leaders in the recording industry and an award-winning curriculum. Since 2017, WAM has hosted six sold-out WAMCon conferences in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and Boston, reaching 800+ emerging women producers, engineers and musicians.

WAMCon Virtual is sponsored by Dolby, Sweetwater, The Recording Academy, sE Electronics, Stage Ten and Shure.

New Studioszene 2020 will take place in October

Studioszene 2020 will take place in October

Due to the current situation, Studioszene will take place on October 30th and 31st – and not on September 18th and 19th, as was originally planned! The location for the recording scene’s community event will remain XPOST in Cologne, Germany.

After Studioszene‘s successful inauguration last year, the second edition of our workshop & community platform for all recording, mixing & mastering engineers and producers will take place on October 30th and 31st 2020. The event will again be located in Cologne’s XPOST! Moreover, the first top-class lecturer, a successful mixing engineer from the USA, is already confirmed. Look forward to Studioszene 2020 and save the date!

With its first edition, Studioszene has established itself as a refreshingly lively event and new international meeting place for producers, engineers and manufacturers. Last year, products from well over 100 brands were thoroughly tested and detailed discussions were held with product specialists and developers – all on an exhibition space of almost 3,000 m2. The two-day programme was complemented by more than 50 top-class workshops and panel discussions, in which Sylvia Massy, Mick Guzauski, Peter Walsh, Nico Rebscher, Wolfgang Stach and Hans-Martin Buff – real audio industry heavyweights – spoke about recording, production and mastering.

Now the cat is out of the bag! Studioszene 2020 will take place on October 30th and 31st, again at XPOST Cologne and again with an attractive workshop programme, premium speakers and the audio industry’s top brands. Save the date!
