New John Storyk to Share 50 Years of Know-How Through AES Panels


AES 2019: WSDG Founding Partner John Storyk to Share 50 Years of Acoustic-Architectural Know-How Through AES Panels, University Lecture Series

World-renowned architect/acoustician will discuss podcast production and approaches to studio design

Global acoustic consulting and audiovisual integration firm WSDG [Booth 440] will be hosting a series of lectures at this year’s AES New York 2019, which takes place from Wednesday October 16, 2019 to Saturday October 19, 2019 at the Javits Convention Center. The panels will cover a wide range of WSDG’s designs and research, sharing the firm’s unparalleled acoustic and integration know-how with AES attendees.

“Podcast Production Studios” will take place on Wednesday October 16 from 10:30am to 12:00pm and will feature Founding Partner and Director of Design John Storyk, Project manager Romina Larregina, as well as Stitcher Studios Chief Engineer John DeLore, Gimlet Media Technical Director Austin Thompson, and veteran systems designer Judy Elliot Brown. The panel will focus on the unique design requirements of the exploding podcast industry, illustrated through the examples of the recently completed Gimlet and Stitcher studios – both of which were designed by WSDG. For those interested, there will also be follow-up tour of Stitcher on Thursday October 17 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

“New Developments in Acoustic Simulation” will also take place on Wednesday, October 16 from 4:45pm to 5:45pm. The panel will be a tutorial on the evolution of methodology for developing and predicting audio in an acoustic space using room modeling simulation during the design process, will be co-chaired by WSDG Partners Dirk Noy, Renato Cipriano, and WSDG Director of Research Dr. Peter D’Antonio.

“Studio Design for 2070” will take place on Friday, October 18 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. The panel will focus on the future of recording studio design, detailing potential technological breakthroughs and challenges, and will feature John Storyk, as well as producer/engineer Eddie Kramer, engineer Ann Minceli, David Rosenthal, and Jimmy Douglass.

In addition to his appearances at AES, Storyk also has scheduled a series of university lectures entitled “Lessons from Electric Lady Studios,” wherein he will be highlighting selections from over four decades of studio design innovations as well as discussing the impact of the industry's changing business models on tomorrow's studio designers. He will be appearing at Parsons School of Design in New York on Monday, October 21, 2019, at 12:10pm, Berklee College of Music in Boston on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 2pm, and at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, on Tuesday, October 29 at 6:30pm. These lectures will be free and open to the public.

New Sonoj Convention 2019


The third annual Sonoj Convention will be taking place this upcoming October 26th-27th 2019 in Cologne, Germany. The convention is focusing on the combination of music production and free / open source software with a priority on practical music production.

At Sonoj there will be talks, demonstrations, and workshops from demonstrating basic workflows to detailed instructions on how to subtly improve your sound. While the event will take place in Germany, all presentations and workshops will be in English, recorded and streamed to make them easily accessible to a wide audience.

As it was last year, admission to the convention is free, though donations are very much welcome.

Music Expo, the multi-city conference series for music makers in association with Sound On Sound is announcing the expansion of its’ annual San Francisco event to two full days in 2019. In addition, the initial lineup and program has also been revealed and will include Grammy Award-winning producers, engineers, music artists, songwriters and leading technology brands. Music Expo San Francisco will be hosted by SAE Expression College and take place on Sat., Nov. 9th and Sun., Nov. 10th.

The Studio at the Outlier Inn is hosting its first mixing workshop in collaboration with Audio Sin Fronteras, November 15th through 17th, 2019. Spend three days in a world-class recording studio learning from 11 time Grammy Award winner, Mick Guzauski, who has mixed and engineered more than 27 #1 hits, making him one of the top mix engineers in the world.

This workshop is aimed at producers, engineers and musicians willing to expand their knowledge, and improve their mixing techniques. The workshop is composed of 3 sessions, from 10 a.m to 7 p.m November 15, 16 and 17 at The Outlier Inn Recording
Studio.

*The maximum capacity for this event is 20 people.*
