It will make an excellent flat beat machine imo...in fact the more I think about it, the more I reckon that it will be the king of flat beat this box...that's what it excels at the most.

So I have been messin with it for a few days and still really enjoy it. Based on my experience let me clear up a few things.

What it isn't:
-A professional studio piece
-A well tuned neat and tidy drum machine
-A flawless modern take on analog

What it IS
-A fun quirky analog drum machine
-Very vintage sounding (noisey, gritty)
-Surprisingly well built, heavy and solid. (I personally love the look of it)
-Actually feels like an old piece of gear
-Way more powerful sounding than the Volca beats.

I have been using it with my TR8 by running it through the external input. Essentially i've been adding analog layering to the TR-8's kicks, hats, and snare for beats. Also the Bass synth, while is nothing close to as accurate or feature worthy as a volca bass or microbrute sounds really old school (in a good way).

I gotta say this thing isn't gonna be going anywhere and I may even get another one at some point. I am quite happy with my purchase. I think this is gonna be a classic some day.

Pleasantly surprised

Feel free to ask questions

Here for the gear

It's worth the money considering it's also a midi controller.

It definitely transmits midi. There are two modes, one will just pass along the midi data "thru" and the other mode transmits data from the wolf itself "out".

Now I haven't messed with this too extensively with the velocity end of things but I will take a look.

However it seems to be able to send midi notes from the bass synth which is kinda cool. The drums also transmit midi it seems. I don't think the knobs do however...

I think I get what he's saying although Oizo used a 606 almost exclusivly on 'Analog Worms' if i'm not mistaken.

It's a one trick, bumpin little pony, not unlike 'flat beat'.

yeah flat beat to me is a style of beat...I don't know if anyone else uses the term but I always use it to describe a very flat break beat that has absolutely no swing, it can go kick kick snare kick snare - or kick snare kick kick snare...but it's usually that very static heavily synthetic sound that Oizo kind of made famous...

I really like the idea and I really want to play with one but it sounds a bit weak and insipid.

it's pretty stupid that in the year 2014 we have to purchase 2 or 3 drum machines just so we can have all the drum sounds we want, when is someone going to step up to the plate and make a fair dinkum drum machine that makes everyone happy and we don't have to use other boxes to fill in the gaps..?

Novation I'm looking your way..

The challenge of "universal love" here is that we've been exposed to so many different sounds and styles and effects ... Nothing is going to satisfy everybody's sonic proclivities ...

For some reason, most drum machines seem to have a sound you either like or not ... More than most other synths, they seem to be defined sometimes by their limitations ...

Well, I'm liking my Wolf more and more despite it's oscillator scaling issues. The tone of it is just so brash and punchy, it's really unique.

It's still a bit of a pain to program. 1st write a pattern for part A then write the fill for A, then write part B and fill B(mind you ,there's no copy or paste within each pattern which sucks pretty bad) I'll just fill it up and leave it for a good while.

I still haven't opened it up yet but will soon, most likely. I do really hope there is a tuning/scaling trimmer inside.

I'll test midi in tonight, but would be very surprised if it didn't work as expected.

Edit: Midi in works fine.

Quick jam with the modded Monotribe and the RW. All live, no edits.
Highlighting the tie function and high resonance of the RW synth.

the more I hear this thing, the more it just sounds broken and wrong, and not in a good way. for some reason I'm still curious about it, though.
