I don't think you can get to 69k positive feedback on eBay by scamming people.
It might be a mistake, but probably not a scam...

but people with high feedback can have their accounts compromised.

Not a mistake, but you're assuming the account hasn't been hijacked.

Have you missed the threads pointing out accounts with 100k feedback but went from selling tiny tacky $10 trinkets to 3x Minimoogs, DSLR cameras, boats, expensive science equipment?

This is capitalism!

Explanation: Of course they don't sell you a "brand new" Rhythm Wolf now. They can't - the Rhythm Wolf is for sure not available before june/august 2014. They just get your money - and you get some windy excuses in exchange for that...

What a deal...

Oh, and you are absolute right if you call them "****ing bastards" or so.

I'd suggest that everyone report that item listing to ebay.

Done. The other reason why I'd consider it a "scam" in the broader sense is that they're not portraying this as a preorder, and it's going to be released after buyers are no longer able to file a Paypal claim.

Finally found the proper report under
Listing practices
Inappropriate seller terms

hmmm...

"...so who's gonna forward a copy of the Ebay link to Akai?" he asks casually while stirring the pot.

i thought the RW was supposed to be a summer/fall release (about same time as Korg Odyssey) but too lazy to find reference so maybe June is right

I have ordered and bought fro that Ebay store before, with no problem, and they are genuine. They specialise in selling pre-demo, ex trade show gear...

Right, well, they have at least one asshat working for them and deserve to get that item pulled off eBay. They should know better.

I think it is probably an error, web shop says - Pre Order
Shipping from June 2014,

I'm guessing they have someone working their who is a little bit ..... (fill in the blanks) and forgot to list it on Ebay as pre-order, it says delivery Between Wed. 23 Apr. and Thu. 24 Apr, that is the problem, unless they are just hoping to get the orders in and hoping people will hold on and not cancel the transaction. It's either a mistake or a ploy, I think mistake TBH. An oversight.

Preorders should NEVER be on eBay due to the limits of chargebacks. I also messaged the vendor to let them know about the oversight.

They received the message but still haven't removed it, classy.

It's a ploy now then, until they remove(or correctly update to pre-order) the listing.

ordering from this company is likely a good way to get the rhythm wolf before most so i don't see what the problem is. lots of companies are taking preorders. i paid for mine over a month ago.

Ah, they responded to my query and yanked the listing. All back to normal.

I have it preordered, but eBay isn't set up for that.

Why? Just because they jumped the gun on the announcement... I seriously doubt they'd never release it. Maybe they wanted to gauge the market to see how many they should make for their first run.

They bit off more than they could chew.

Gauge the market? They don't have a product yet. One measly demo and they could accomplish that.
But it's pretty obvious they have nothing.... yet

That box at the show was an idea... not a product... pretty bold move.
I'll be amazed if they pull this off.

Considering the preorders I've made just over the last few years, i'd be more surprised if the product was released on time.

It's to be released in June, supposedly, plenty of time to get everything set up with demos and ramping up for production within a month to spare.

I get impatient too, but this stuff always gets sorted out... eventually.

Eh, you're ascribing malintent. If they were revising the design to avoid the issue experienced at NAMM, I would expect longer delays. We'll hear it when we hear it. I'm sure they've decided to release all the marketing collateral at once and not make exceptions for Gearslutz.

If it were a new unknown company looking for kickstarter funding, sure. I'd agree with you, but this is Akai. They've got a pretty good proven track record of releasing quality music gear.

But this is not the same Akai as the Japanese corporation that made hardware samplers and microwave ovens. What was the last music gear the current Akai released that's considered "quality" though?

Akai does have recent history of quietly discontinuing "products" that they announced prematurely like they did with MPC Fly but I don't think that will happen with the Silent Wolf because there's been too much hype now and they know the amount of flak that will come their way if they were to never release it.
