OK. My interest in the Volca Beats and TR-8 just stepped outside.

Can't wait to hear this thing. I might be even more interested in the MPX16 if it had a basic sequencer.

I'm assuming this Wolf thingy will be able to sequence external gear?

Nothing matters but the fact it's analog.
Digital audio synthesis is much less forgiving to mistakes and compromises than analog, both from an user and designer standpoint...and I have yet to hear an analog instrument that doesn't retain some kind of charm despite its eventual flaws, while same can't be said about all digital stuff.
5 (or 4 if the open/closed hh are exclusive) percussive voices plus one simple mono synth, with midi in and out on din sockets (no more free usb ports here, sorry...), looking better manufactured than korg's volca serie, released humbly for 200$, well done akai !

I really hope the RHYTHM WOLF will sound good because it looks fantastic on paper. The analog drum voices, the sequencer, the swing control, midi, USB and analog trigger ins and outs to integrate it with your modulars or other analog machines. It looks fabulous. And the price is unbelievable.
People ask if analog is important. For me it is for two reasons. First, certain sounds benefit from the analog sound generation and second, an analog machine makes possible to add individual outs modify/customise the circuit to make it unique and suitable for your needs if you are into DIY ( I am very much ).

The new MPX16 will be the perfect compliment to the RHYTHM WOLF. Can sample with it's analog ins, can load and save files from and to SD card, each drum voice has resonant filters and enough parameters to manipulate the sounds radically.

This pair for 400$ is a bargain if they sound great. Looking forward to hear demos.

Well, they would not have any legal basis for issuing one.
Also, you've posted it 6 or 7 times now, it's starting to get spammy.

The real question is whether any company (other than DSI) wants to put the R&D money into making a poly without CEM/SSM/Roland chips, or indeed putting money into making new ones.

(I've heard it suggested that Elektron are using remakes of the SSM 2164 chip for instance)
Btw, Cool Audio makes the reissue clones of the SSM 2164. I have a few in several if my Mutable Instruments synths.

Oh poor you. The excitement is based on a company who's got a pretty good track record for making desirable music gear announcing that they're making something that's closer to what people actually want than a TR-8 and doing it for less than half the price.

Of course, it all could go to hell when we hear it, but we can hope, can't we?

I'd prefer it to be to called something like the AR-372, personally.

The thing is that it being analog means that it's moddable (if you hate the sounds) but that it probably sounds decent anyway (based on the existence of time-honored and very simple circuits that make great analog drum/bass sounds). Obviously the sonic range of the thing is going to be extremely limited, but as long as the engineers were even basically competent it's going to sound pretty good for many styles of electronic music.

Since it's from Akai, it's a given that the sequencer will function well, so no worries there. And if it sounds like total ass, you still have a nice MIDI sequencer, and maybe a MIDI knob controller.

For $200.

$200.

At this price, if it sounds like ass then you can just grab a soldering iron and go all Robocop on its ass.

The "$199.99 USD street price" is in the Akai press release, why not trust it?

Probably because it's so cheap that it's suspicious...

Hmmmm. This might stop me getting an MFB something-or-other. Or perhaps not.

Man. Just when I had sold a bunch of my gear and was "done" getting new stuff for awhile. I'm sure I'll pick this up. $200? That's insanely cheap.

Kinda reminds me of this, just in a different flashy box with added bass synthesizer.
