I'm still open to getting one. The price is right, and so is the size. But one of the reasons I want this is eddy72's video here:

I'm a proud Crumar Performer owner and just got the Streichfett. Streichfett is cool and does it's own thing. It's a no brainer for the price.

My Performer however plays still in a different league. Raw and authentic. The Crumar strings are just glorious.

Turn it anyway you like there is still a long way to go until digital might be able to capture the vibes of a vintage Analog dinosaur.

Funny - my 3-way Effect Selector switch was broken.
I think the foam blocks they use around the Streichfett in the box generally work OK except when a box (or boxes) fall on their side. The foam pushes against one of the switches and can break it.

(just a guess based on looking at the design and packing of things).

I've had the Streichfett for a couple of days, and I'm pretty happy with this machine.
It's simple and fun to play with, and it has lots of sweet spots.
The onboard effects are better than I expected, but can still be a bit hit and miss, especially the phaser.
As an effects nut, I always wanted to hear it through some nice outboard, so I ran it into the Eventide DSP7000 and recorded a few short noodles.

Its a box with 22 knobs for which OS is a very big word and yes it works fine. The phaser still might overdrive a bit, but besides that, its a great synth with a great value for the money.

I've finally got around to doing a comparison with my Logan String Melody II. There's a lot of waffle, sorry, so I had to split it over two parts

After having spent a fair bit of time with the two together, I think Streichfett does a reasonable emulation of the String Melody II: it's not perfect, but it's pretty close. I get the feeling the differences are mostly down to the ensemble emulation. For me, the Logan's high end seems sweeter somehow, crap description I know, but I can think how else to describe it.

For the shared effects knob, is there a way for you to know what knob position each effect was last set to when you select between them with the switch?

SWAN808, you may make modern music now, but eventually you'll want to make a coldwave album and this will be on every track.

Thanks.

Yeah, when you do a comparison like that you begin to appreciate how terrific the Streichfett sounds, but as you say the originals sound even terrificker

I've now finished part two, which just covers the articulation, attack/release times and the organ sounds (which aren't at all similar, but they still sound great):

Sadly there's nothing to indicate the position of anything and once you move a knob it jumps, there's no "relative" or "pass-through" mode like you get on some synths.

The String emulation on the Nord Lead A1 sounds vastly superior

The Streichfett is pretty damn close to the Logan. Not identical, but in a mix the difference is so small as to be irrelevant.

So, does your Nord's vintage string machine emulation sound vastly superior and far more like a vintage string machine than my, er, vintage string machine? And I've always thought the Logan is far nicer (but not superior) sounding than the famed Solina. I might just have to sell both and buy an A1...

I suspect what you actually mean is that you much prefer the sound of your Nord, which is fine, but it's a funny way of saying it.

Streichfett isn't even designed to specifically emulate any one particular string machine of the dozens that were produced, just have its own character inspired by all those instruments. I don't think you can get it sound much like a Solina, but I've not, yet, tried much on that front but even if you can't it doesn't really matter. The fact it does the Logan pretty well is just a bonus, not that it matters a jot to me.

Awesome. I also like that you had to bag the Juno-60 in the background to protect it from being splattered by 70's porn string juice.

Incredible Don. Love the footage. Surprised by the staccato sounds coming from the Streichfett. I'm guessing someday I will own one of these.

We'll have to thank that to Atari ST. Because sequencing the same (and some other) synth(s) directly via USB from a PC with 16th notes at higher BPMs is essentially a joke. At least when compared to the ST method. Night & day difference in timing/precision.
