Yeah. Disabling the effects as the first thing I did when playing it at Musicmesse.

hope for the Streichfett control for iOS
The last part in the second track is very nice. Cool sound!
I have a feeling that this lil box is a very capable modern string synth.
My initial decision on the sound appears to have been correct! Can't wait to get my hands on one.

Sounds interesting but I'm still on the fence. Streichfett is $400, and I keep thinking that the GForce String Machine is $130, and a Launch Control is $99, and can't say for sure that the Waldorf sounds better....

I recently had a computer crash that resolved the software vs. hardware debate for me. Hardware all the way. VST's are not for me.

I just love the rocket format...
I was very suspicious about the rocket...
But then when i got it i was in deep shock! the sound was sooooo good!
Of course if you use VST's you may doubt it... but it's a Waldorf! They are masters of wavetable stuff! So they know how to make a good digital synth strings or not...
Sure if you had an experience with proper vintage strings you also may doubt it...
but not much people are keeping a dedicated strings in their arsenal now - footprint is one of the reasons obviously...and Streichfett's footprint is very small for the sound it has!
I have great faith in Purplefat even though it's digital... it's so small and will be a great addition to my sound palette.

p.s I'm not trying to talk anyone into buying one... but there's a boatload of reasons to get one if you want strings and need to make porn soundtracks

Listen to Waldorf's Buttery, New String Synth, the Streichfett [Hands-on] - Create Digital Music

Oh boy. Again that reverb constantly on.

Luckily one of the demo units is coming my way.

So i'll do a proper 'retro' demo with it.

I would trade my Solina for one of these. Good move Waldorf.

I don't get it

If it's not analog what is the big deal about this? DCAM suite had had a nice modeled string synth in there forever, not to mention sample based stuff like Virtual String Machine? Why spend money on this unless it's a true analog string synth (which it seems it is not)?

Because there is a new breed of live musicians that don't use laptops, where've you been

People are sick to death of a dude showing up at a gig with his laptop just to hit play on his studio session.

for similar reasons why you would spend money on DCAM, plus all the benefits of hardware
I am not saying this or DCAM sounds better

But unlike a synth there isn't so much to tweak in real time on a string synth so what's the big deal to have hardware in this case?

You plug in a midi cable and start playing, maybe a turn some knobs to get a string sound you're after. Minimum hassle. That would be the point for a box like this. Instant playability.

what??? not much to tweak????
9 knobs (excluding volume) 5 switches
just think of how many combinations you can make with these!

IMO this pretty much to tweak for such a small unit!

There's also an old breed of live musicians who never used them.

The Streichfett is something that will either appeal to you or not -- and the first impression is pretty much everything.

Once you're in front of one it's either love at first sight -- or not interested.

Personally I thought it was charming.

I have a feeling that this module would be a great replacement for my second JX-3P. At present, I use a master JX-3P to control a Second slave JX-3P (Problem 2 full sized synths to carry around). Sure the Butterfinger or whatever I can't pronounce is no jX-3P, but I think I would err on buying it and that way I'd only have to haul around A Blofeld keys, JX-3P and the Butterfinger (my nickname for the Waldorf stringz). At 50 years young, lighter might be better. or lighter might be butter. (couldn't resist the pun)

Don's beta-testing will probably set them back a good few months

Multiple sources multiple answers.

I think the first thing out will be the new 2-pole analog filter (also on my list) and that will be out around that 6 week mark. But I heard or read elsewhere this one will be out in the summer.

Hopefully they both come out sooner rather than later. They are currently #1 and #2 on my must buy list.

I was hoping it could sound like an arp omni 2 but it sounds more like 1970's sale of the century into music...drat.

I actually had a dream about this machine. It sounded EXACTLY like what I need in that dream.

No pressure Waldorf...

Not trying to be smart-assed here, but please remember this is Waldorf.

Considering how late to the gate the Pulse 2 was -- when they were showing nothing but 3D renders of the thing for an entire year -- yet still saying the release date was three months away. Then the Rocket came like a shot out of the blue and pretty much everyone had thought they scrapped the Pulse 2 in the meantime but didn't have the heart to tell anyone. Turned out ok in the end but it was a frigging roller coaster of a year.

So when Waldorf rushes to show something like the unfinished Streichfett at MM (purely to keep press interest up) I'm a little wary of promised release dates set in the summer. I'd rather they finish the current projects and then show off the finished (or near-finished) versions to the press. The alternative is rushing an unfinished product with serious bugs that might never get addressed (*cough* Blofeld *cough*) to market to meet some unrealistic release date -- and as much as I love their products I really don't want to see a repeat performance of that.

Wow. Somehow I totally missed this.

Could it be, that I could finally get over loosing my Trident?. I heard some very similar charactor in those demos.

Will be watching his product with great interest.

Waldorf have gone off the Earth. No mail response since then. No messages. No nothing.

Just sent them a "ping".

I have been waiting for more on the Streichfett, but nothing. No demo bids, not even any words. Did you get one to play with, Don?
