Bumping this instead of opening a new thread:

The kick layered over the bass in this song -

Where is the kick hitting the hardest? The lower frequencies 60-90? Or more around 100?

Did they just move the attack back on the bass to make room for the kick then?

As I said before a kickdrum is all about the first 100ms. The rest is subs and or reverb. Take away the first 20ms and you lose the punch. Find the punch sample and synthesize the sub. Add reverb, or don´t. Shove it into a limiter with 25ms release. Done.

This song at 3:35: https://soundcloud.com/boomboxcartel...boombox-cartel - it seems like the kick is more than just the attack of the kick though doesn't it, yet it seems to flow so well with the sub underneath. When I try layering it just doesn't seem so "seamless" if you will.

The kick in the tune you posted is a bit generic but it sounds fine.

Yeah I just can't get my kick to hit like that.

It seems like no matter how many sample library's I browse through I can't find hard hitting clean kicks like that one either.

I don't like the side-chaining into the bass technique.

So other than that, would using a kick boosted hard around the low end 50hz ish, and moving the attack of the '808' type bass I made in massive suffice?

That's what I've been trying, and I tried to A/B compare my kick / sub to the one in that track, and at the same volumes, theirs hits so much harder.
