Audio Interface for non-recording producers?!?

Yes this is my first post, i've been reading the gearslutz forum for years now.
And even made use of some mastering services from board members.

I have been searching the web (and especially gearslutz) for an answer to my question.
I used to have the focusrite saffire pro 40. Now i'm looking into getting a new interface,
i'm looking at something like the focusrite 56 or avid mbox pro.
Now these are pretty good for recording, but being a "producer" who mainly uses midi
instruments i will not be using the inputs much. And most reviews
discuss just these (important) features.

To make a long story short, to avoid overkill i'd like to know if i even
need one of these "big" audiointerfaces, or could i get the same output
quality from something like the mbox (mini) or akai eie pro?

My budget for an audiointerface would be around 800euro's, but if i can
save some cash and spend it on some other gear, why not.

Lives for gear

It has no midi out, but the Traktor Audio 2 output is top quality for the price, I saw I video of (dare I mention his name) Skrillex using one playing to a crowd of a few thousand. Midi interfaces can be had for £20-30 or less.

It has exactly the same D/A converters as their £300 models.

Or maybe the TC Konnekt 6?

TC Electronic | Desktop Konnekt 6

I would say that's the best in it's price range by far, but maybe other have better suggestions.

Well you just need D/A, so you can get yourself a very high quality convertor for that kinda budget.

Have a look at used Benchmark DAC1, Lavry DA10/11, Mytek, Apogee Mini Dac, etc. And never look back.

I would avoid NI interfaces, not very good quality, probably a step down from the saffire, imo.

true. a Mytek stereo 96DAC would take it to another level.
I sold mine recently, but only to get a bigger Mytek. Very happy with the sound.

woah you guys reply quick!!!

Yeah i'm leaning more to the RME or Benchmark (eventhough that one seems a lil over my budget)
I had a tc konnekt years ago, that wasn't for me. could've been my computer, but it sounded worse then my audiophile 2496

But i'm gonna check out some reviews of all the dac's you guys suggested.
You guys opened up a whole new world :D lol..

Have you heard them? Honestly the Komplete Audio 6 sounds and performs pretty damn good for $200 and is easily on par or better than interfaces several times its cost.

My vote goes to M-audio profire 610. I was considering to buy either komplete audio 6 or the profire and went for it. Best choice I've made. It has extremely low latency, and i just read that the komplete 6 has problems to power 2 mics at the same time.
