so why can't you put a scsi2sd in it? seems win-win. i even paid import duty from US at the time, i think :-/
i mean, given that you'd probably end up buying a CF>SD adpater for the cheaper media... (is there any speed benefit with CF?)
the only reason my scsi-CF hasn't been used is that i didn't figure out how to retain the rear scsi port. and i carried on with internal zip and an external usb zip100. so it's just sitting there. really not worth posting it all the way back to the US

(now i need to persuade someone in the EU that it's worth what i paid for it...) (via PM please folks :P)

Not the same Akai, and they've all gone downhill since the 4000. The X and Live are a fancy updated touch screen version of the MPC 5000.

Akai S900/S950 factory libraries

Today I shared two Akai factory libraries for the S900 and S950 on my site: the SL5000 and PSL9000 series. After 30 years I had to back-up the floppies, because some of them were damaged. Happily the back-ups of the damaged floppies made with Omniflop are readable again, some samples are damaged, but the multisample instruments work. I made back-ups in 4 different formats: DD and HD floppy images, SCSI2SD image file and EXS24 files for use in Logic pro. You can download them here:

….let me say : not only the 5000 but also much more on the " X "….

unfortunately prices are too high ….
(…especially for used Mpcs… )

to compete against a 200 bucks used laptop ,
that do a lot more things , apart music …

( with max respect to Guru Roger Linn and 80' revolutionary Mpc concept )

also Mpc sound libraries are not the top ….

in comparison to those available on Korg , Yamaha , etc.. synths and expanders… ,
(…include the V Synths and the universe of sounds .. , gettable for " free "..)

for example the sounds of one similar to Mpc unit like Roland MC909
(..Roland hardware quality apart …)
are a lot more " versatile " and ready to use i.m.h.o.

one very good thing on the Mpc X
is the assignable controls pots panel section
with dedicated led displays
that show the parameter assigned to the control pot…

good also to control V synths parameters …

which however does not justify the too hi price
( market is changed… )

touch screen is cool…

but work with a 28 / 32 inches Lcd screen and a mouse
is so very much faster (…and professional)

.. ok it have cv gate interfaces for the niche of old school analogue lovers …
… but this is only a "flashback transition period"…

(…professional music producers work on various projects at the same time ,
and do not have large quantity of time to spend on reset pots and patchcords…,
total recall is a must.. )

what it could make the Mpc X
more interesting
would be expand the integration with a today D.A.W.
like :
- expand the controls pots section , add some fader.. ,
- hdmi , vga , and mouse ports for external large screen and mouse ,
- 16 channels digital audio out (as on S6000)
through usb , or today other digital data stream interfaces …
(also as optional expansions…)

but price must be much lower ,
( .. market is changed ,
also for used old mpc models …, they are not intel i9 or dual duo cpu.. )

You can buy them directly from Amigakit who is the Uk distributer for the SCSI2SD.
