yamaha kx88 midi message question

hi experts,

i have a somewhat strange problem with our kx88.
It's connected to a Linux computer which is recording the MIDI messages and puts them out to some sound module.
A couple of weeks ago, everything was working fine. Now I re-connected everything and the program processing the MIDI messages gives error messages, saying that it can't interpret the MIDI messages (and you hear rather random sound output, and not anymore what you are actually playing on the keyboard).
The software on the Linux machine is rather special, and I know it can have difficulties handling MIDI input from different keyboards, but since it worked once before, it is odd that it suddenly cannot handle the midi input from the kx88 anymore.
When I connect the KX88 to a MAC with Logic, everything is fine. If I connect a cheap and simple MIDI controller keyboard to the Linux
computer, everything works fine as well (i.e. no midi warnings, and sound output is ok), so my guess is that everything is ok with our Linux pc/soundcard/cables.
So my guess was that the MIDI messages from the KX88 somehow differ between the KX88 and the cheap midi controller keyboard (and differ between when I connected the kx88 to the linux pc in the first place compared to now).

I tried a system reset of the kx88 (holding A+B while turning it on, and also with the loop), but nothing changed. Now I'm really running out of ideas.
Is there any other way of changing the MIDI output of the keyboard (and I should add that I don't need anything special, no external controllers, just "basic" MIDI output with keyOn/off information.
Or do you have any other ideas what could possibly be wrong?

Any help is greatly appreciated, we are getting quite desperate with this issue...!

thanks,
cle
