Saw this today also. They are rare and this one looks to be in very nice condition. However, unless it was upgraded or I missed something, it is only a 4 voice. I'd say the price is too much for even an 8 voice, though I think $6500 is way too much for any of the big polys.

for $6500 you would think it would be the 8 voice model no?

it's either 4, 6 or 8 if I recall correctly

I would hope so, but it is definetly a factory 4 voice. Onkloud9 is usually good with listings. I'd figure that if it was upgraded to 6 or 8, it would be in the description. Maybe he forgot to mention that.

damn, want one so bad but no way in hell i'd pay $6500 for any synth. Even though this would be my number one pick of any synth, i still wouldn't pay much over $2K

Don, I hope you have that famous piece of carpet insured? after all, its been the background to some of the most mint examples of these beauties over the years.

Whether its determined ugly or not, that is the last thing people should consider when summing up a synth. They are all about sound, not visuals. tutt

it looks simple... like a nail.. or a hammer... or piece of unfinished wood
it looks exactly as a tool should
it is the simple, well thought out things that create things of astounding beauty

so Don has a collection of amazing looking, highly regarded synths? gotta find out where he lives and sleep on his door step until lets me in to play with his toys

Crazy... a synth manufacturer could afford factory space in Santa Monica? Now _that's_ vintage...

The OBX' paint job is a bit ugly, but OBXa is gorgeous. In flesh, it is an imposing instrument with a certain aura (oh yes I'm waxing lyrical ;P )

Was really thinking about grabbing this but the seller couldn't have been anymore rude if he tried in his email response to some questions.

Has anyone else emailed him? He acted like he couldn't be bothered to know ANYTHING about it other than general "it works" responses.

I'll happily take my overpriced collector purchasing elsewhere.

I asked that too and got the roundabout answer of "everything is as it should be"

Paraphrased for the sake of GS rules.

But "as it should be" is a wildly varying situation when we are talking number of voices, etc.

Hrmmm sounds like 4 voices to me if he won't say...why be standoffish when you're trying to get 6,500 for a synth

No. The original OBX end panels are much bigger, and tbh, look a little silly. Kinda like a kid wearing adults shoes heh

..but who cares, it sounds phenomenal

Yet another overpriced auction will end without a buyer... it seems like 80% of all Ebay auctions are now like that. Ebay doesn't care, they'll take the repeat listing fee from those idiots... and every once in a while I guess an even bigger idiot buys something that is clearly above what it's worth - for whatever reason. it must happen sometimes... Otherwise the sellers wouldn't do it!
