Opinions on sidechain compression

I just wanted to know others opinions of it. It seems like it has become a really cheesy, lame thing to do. I dont like hearing it all over constantly but, I have no problem using it if it would fit well with what i am doing. Just wondering how often or at all other people use it.
Thanks

I personally consider it virtually ESSENTIAL... at least for any electronic dance music.

* Fast release times to help elements sit together in the mix without huge spikes in amplitude.

* Slow release times (audible 'pump') done SUBTLY to add energy to the track.

The key is subtlety.

True, what's overdone is "tremolo" style SC.

id say using it creatively is the key. Use it to create unusual rhythms other than just pumping dance music. Also id say that moderation isnt always as fun

i guess the reason why some techniques become ubiquitous is because they actually just work really well.

don't just sidechain to a drum element; compress pads with bass synths or bass compressed by a sparse lead line with lots of delay sounds cool.

I think it should be used as a FIX rather than an effect.
