The Classic Techno thread

And by "Techno", I mean the original, classic Techno from 1990 / 1991 / 1992

When I was 20 years old that was the music of the day, that I loved and made. Now 20 years have passed, and I've recently unearthed from a forgotten box several old floppy disks with the sound sets that I created at the time, when I was playing parties and raves with a dj friend of mine.

Tonight I decided to load three of them in my three W-30s, and try to recapture the spirit of those days. I forgot how I used to play those sound sets, so I'm improvising, but for the younger folks here, who weren't around during Techno, perhaps you'll find these sounds different. LOL

This is how we did it... so...40 year olds... post your classic Techno stuff! heh

Yay, I also have a W30

I'm a techno-lover of the late-90's period (german/swedish lock-groove), for me the early-90's sound has dated a lot.

But this track is one of the exceptions...timeless techno that will still sound deepy cutting-edge 20 years from now:

Yes, some great work on the three W30's there, Mr Varaldo , really evocative of classic techno.

This is the version I've always known. Is the original an edit?

Energy Flash is the perfect opener in this classic dj set, some seamless mixing here:

I’m a big fan of the Swedish / German / Italian late 90’s techno, as well. I also appreciate the funk of this techno precursor breakbeat from 88/89, and the raw warehouse sound of tracks like Rewinder.

Yes, mate! That second track you linked is exactly my shizzle. Love it.

Italian as well, yeah - I remember Wednesday nights at the George 4 in Brixton around 2001/2 were exclusively lock-groove stuff from Italy, including the DJ's who were spinning the records. It was the Italian stuff from those nights that acted as my breakthrough into this kind of techno: before that it was all acid techno, uk hard house, hard-trance...now almost 10 years later it's still this kind of techno which dominates my tastebuds (that and darkpsy).

Sorry for twisting your thread a bit, Mr Varaldo...I'll get my own W30 out at some point and try and bring it back on topic

I was lucky to be on R&S from 1988 or so until the end of the 90s.
For me it was the best period for club music and yes Boccaccio was WILD!
I agree with many here that Energy Flash was the top track. Love it.
We used to do tracks and take them to Boccaccio to test them out.
For me, I quickly moved into more Ambient fields but 1988 to 1993 or so was a superb clubbing period and the music was amazing.

thumbsup "Dominator" is one of my rave techno favorites. I was completely wowed when I first heard it.

Bizarre Inc - Playing With Knives is another huge classic.

I just missed when this stuff was acutally coming out. I first got into that Belgian New Beat stuff when I was heavy into industrial.

hehe, golden era of electronic music, init?
By saying sensible money, how much do you mean out of one single release?
I started releasing music a decade later and the moneys were still sensible (imo). Lately it's all gone bad, but just an estimate from that time?

I've always wondered how did Mark Bell recorded the LFO album.
It sounds sooo good that i highly suspect he went to a proper studio and mixed it on a big board and all... I would find hard to believe it was recorded in a home studio.

Like Dlmorley i also was into New Beat before getting introduced to raves and Techno music. I was one of the angry teenager furious at the French talk show host Dechavanne when he did his provocative show in 89 introducing Acid house as a Facist movement.
If you understand french, the show is on youtube
