Unitor8 mk 2 under xp sp2 vs sp3 WHAT?!

Okay, just set up a bunch of hardware synths/samplers, and was intending to use my old unitor 8 mk 2 to handle all of my midi.

I plugged it in and installed it, but am having a hell of a time getting it to work. Windows (xp) recognizes it, though it only sees one i/o port. All of my midi apps will not see the unitor, including the unitor control software. I've been scratching my head for a couple of days trying to figure this out.

Then I wondered, why I even thought I could use an ancient (in digital terms) piece of technology like this. Further head scratching revealed that I had used it fairly recently with an old xp laptop.

So I just plugged the unitor into my old laptop via usb, and it was instantly recognized by xp, and works perfectly...

But no dice on my production computer, also xp. The first thing that comes to mind is that my production machine is xp sp3 and the old lappy is sp2.

Any of you brainiacs know why the unitor would work under sp2 and not 3?

My production machine is also a "home" version of xp, whereas my laptop is "professional." Maybe that is the distinction?

Any ideas of wtFFFFFFFFF is going on?

Tried to uninstall and reinstall the Unitor? Mine works perfectly under Windows XP Professional SP3...
