I strongly recommend to install Komplete in the afternoon, then you'll be finished by dinner time. If you start at 20:00 or so you're already too late if you want to hit the sheets at a reasonable time.

What's the point of having JP-4 AND JP-6 AND JP-8 ?

EDIT: ok, this is Gearslutz, sorry.

The point is not one of those sounds like each other. That's sort of like saying, "Why have more than one synth, they're all synths, right?"

Well, to be honest and to answer your question. If something says Jupiter 6 on the front panel, that doesn't have to "by default" mean it is related to Jupiter 8 or vice-versa.

Just a glance look inside of these two units might reveal you they are two completely different synthesizers (both the hardware and the way they sound). Aside of few chips, only thing they have in common is the word Jupiter written on the panel.

The mob may hang me for this, but I think I may like my Jupiter 4 more than my Jupiter 8... two VERY different beasts, but I just LOVE the tone of the Jup 4 (also love the Jupiter 6, but again, so different)

So, there ya have it folks, maybe the cheaper Jupiter 4 stepchild is better!

Yeah I actually like the JP-6 by far the best (lots of extra featues not on the 8), followed by the MKS-80rev4, then JP-4, then the JP-8...

Thanks for the explenation, Don.

I just assumed that the JP-6 is the 6-voice version of the JP-4 and the JP-8 is the 8-voice version of...well, you know what I mean.

Slutty, nontheless.

MPK 88 - Here is a quick review...
  • Thing is massive but every time I walk in the room I want to play it which is a good thing!
  • Keys feel good (very different from my midiman66).
  • Arp doesn't seem to have too many options but the latch, tap tempo and time division helps. I'm hoping there are more patterns to choose from in the menus.
  • Triggering with the pads can have interesting results.
  • The knobs report data quicker then the sliders.
  • Looking forward to the transport control instead of hitting record with my mouse.
  • Still need to get my sustain and expression pedals.
  • Can't wait to try the MPC swing.
  • LCD screen, modulation and pitch bend wheel lights are bright

I've had every Jupiter in the family and MKS-80, and I enjoy my JP-4 more than any of the others I ever had - especially now with the Io kit inside. It is definitely a highly underrated synth, but it's catching on - eBay prices have skyrocketed in the last year.

Logan String Melody 2 shipping from a fellow GS member. Might need some service but I'm really looking forward to this as it took me about 8 months to find.

January 2011 New Gear Thread

Damn. I swore after my distressor I was done buying gear for a while. Then a JP4 and io kit ended up in my hands! Was only supposed to have it temporarily before someone bought it from me.. but the first night I spent on it with the io kit in it my reaction was "ok.. what am I going to sell so I can afford to keep this" lol.

People just don't know how vicious the JP4 is with io in it!

Rolands are back!

So just got all my vintage Rolands back from either having tech work done or in the case of the rack effects, cosmetic work. Everything works great and looks great now. So happy!

Let me answer this for you ... January of course!

I got this 10 minutes ago , at last it arrived in Greece after months of delay. The only way to get it before was only from abroad.

I have not even turned it on, I am waiting for the itunes to download , so I will keep you posted if it deserves all the buzz.
