Guess The Synth!

*** MP3 UPDATED TO HIGHER QUALITY ***

Did some lame experimenting the udder day....
Which synth is it from my collection?

Alesis Andromeda A6
Emu Vintage Keys
Korg X50
Korg Electribe
Roland JP8000
Yamaha MM6

It's not a VSTi. This is just for fun.
(sorry bout the low quality and hum... in a hurry, grabbed a bad patch cable)

It's not the Alesis Micron

Maybe a little too smooth to be a JP8000. I hear no stepping in the sweeps so i'd guess something analog or something modern (with high resolution stepping). Could be a A6 but that has digital modulation (I think) and considering it's age I would expect a little stepping there. So I have to agree with the previous poster: It's a Micron.

I'll re-upload the higher resolution stereo MP3 when I get home, and wait a day to reveal.
This was just for fun - not trying to prove anything or find what is best.

The filter is too smooth to be an Andromeda.

I heard a hum in the demo track...is it coming from your soundcard or synth?

I say Emu Vintage Keys.

The hum was bad and I am 99% sure it was from a bad cable I grabbed. The synth had never done that before... I was sloppy/quick making this test file for something completely unrelated. Thot I'd post it here just for the fun of guessing.

The detuning in the sound examples which are given, sounds nothing like the unison in the Andromeda or the super-saw detuning in the JP-8000. I think I am very familiar with those and I would be very surprised if I got this wrong.

Also, the filter sounds nothing like an Andromeda. It *could* be the filter in the JP-8000 because that filter thins out after half it's range, but again ... the timbre is not there.

I am not familiar with the other synths as I never had any of them.

I like those basses :-O

A6?

...for some reason it just doesn't sound like a digital or sample player to me...

edit: Otoh the resonance is stronger than anything i remember from other A6 clips...

Twas the Yamaha MM6

It's a sad, limited keyboard, but has lots of fun little features.
And HORRIBLE STEPPING on the filter/rez!! Just aweful. I sweeped them fast enough that you can't really tell, but it is worthless for slow, manual changes, unless that is the specific effect you want.

I was searcing for the absolute cheapest toy that would have a keyboard and be able to do some kind of synth-like sounds... the Yam PSR-E423 fits the bill at $230 even less than a Microkorg but with a full keyboard, 32 voices, and this type of minimal synth-like manipulation. The E423 seemed a lot like my MM6
