Post one song in here that you consider a perfect mix

Post just one mp3 of a song that you feel epitomizes a perfect mix, sound wise.

It will also make a cool listening session for people to discover new music which is, in the posters opinion, cream of the crop for that style.

Curious to see how people perceive this!

Mine:

To me this mix is just perfect. Just wait for that first verse to drop....simply AMAZING. And the hats just sound amazing...so silky smooth.

Hey Mike,

Is this your own track posted in the OP?

If not, you might get hit with the naughty stick for 'sharing' music on this forum... maybe a youtube link might be best (although the sound is obviously not perfect.)

I think it's difficult to pick one perfect mix... first off , there is no such thing as a perfect mix, secondly, it depends entirely on the style of the track.

For me, I think for contemporary house, anything by

Stimming
Martin Buttrich
Dennis Ferrer

...is pretty much on the money.

Neptunes & Chemical Bros also knock out absolutely air-tight mixes.

my track? i wish haha...but this track is free anyway...

for the purpose of this thread the perfect mix is just a song with a mix exactly how you like it, in your favorite genre. In other words, for you it really can't get any better.

Nice airy drums...sometimes I wonder if it's worth it to buy a Bricasti for this.
Somehow I struggle getting it nice (like in your example) with the Bricasti impulse responses.
I guess nothing beats stereo recorded drums in a nice room....

mastering needed a bit more sweetening of the mid highs but brilliant all round.

I think the modern covers are over compressed.

Andy Page! I really wish he would get back to making electronic music instead of producing for pop stars.

too hard to pick just one.
first electronic album which comes to mind:

(The) Prodigy - Fat Of The Land (1997)
YouTube - The Prodigy - Climbatize

In terms of mixing, it's one of my absolute favourites. I find every single track punching right in my face, WITHOUT causing ear-fatigue! Good luck finding electronic music anno 2010 with that quality. The album also translates extremely well to almost any playback system.

oh man - this is such an epic production from several years ago when breaks was big - thanks for reminding me...I have the vinyl...In fairness its not the mix that does it for me but the creativity and elegance of the production...

I like all sorts of stuff but this one comes to mind

Not electronic but Metallica's black album is produced perfect IMO. From mix to master. It's has the perfect amount of energy which means it has just the right amount of 'in your face' but all the dynamics are there still. Pounding bass and (many layers of) 'clear' guitars.

It's mandatory to say I like their old albums better heh but production wise it hits the mark perfectly.

You guys sure have some weird tastes in music and sound... ;-)

In terms of mixing, producing these are pretty good (excuse the bad youtube quality, people seem to be too dumb to upload properly):

phew! *wipes brow* heh (just kidding black is a good album)

3) Led Zepplin IV -- philistines: stick w/it thru 4:20 from this point in one song...
YouTube - Led Zeppelin- The Battle Of Evermore (STUDIO VERSION)

2) a song written on the knifes edge of world war played the evening after 9/11, not in America, but in the UK? oh man--sometimes its not the mix but the performance that nails it...
YouTube - Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings, op.11. Uncut

1) the king: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym0hZG-zNOk

The Album "Ki" of Devin Townsend is really an album I love listening to, for the music, and the sound.

And for metal IMO Andy Sneap is the master.
(of course if you don't listen in HD it will sound horrible...)

Yeah my friends ran the label so i got lucky and got a high rez file. If you had the 24bit master you might enjoy the mix a bit more. Mixed on an SSL 9000 J... Also i always listen to it on vinyl. I think the mix and layering of compression is just on a whole other level...
