Got a slim phatty for cmas!

My first analog synth! whooooooo! haha

I have it hooked up with a midi cable, haven't been able to get the USB working on it yet. Is a pre-amp/sound card necessary? And 3 times today I was playing with the knobs and the sound would just die and I'd have to restart the synth to get it to make sounds again. Any idea what that could be?

midi feedback loop? do you have midi hooked up in both directions? what software you running on the computer?

the USB carries only MIDI, not audio, so you do need a sound card or similar to get the synth audio into the computer. the USB should auto-install and appear as an available MIDI device in your software, generally speaking...

You are amazing, hit the nail on the head. I switched from my midi cable to USB and it's working perfectly now. I think it was a midi problem. One thing I notice is if I turn the volume above half way the audio like distorts even tho it's not even hitting red in my daw?

Seems like you've connected it to a mic input. Synths are line level instruments. Congratulations on the Moog! :-)

Yea, I connected it directly into the side of my macbook's mic input and the other end was plugged into "headphones" instead of "OUT". and idk exactly what line level means, haha, but I'm still a newb. I love the synth, hopefully there'll be more to come!

The mic input expects a really weak signal, and the Phatty ends out a way stronger signal, so the mic input can't deal with that. If you want to record it on your laptop, start looking for an USB soundcard.

Congrats with your present

you must change the audio input on your mac to line in the preferences. But a usb soundcard is still the way to go.
