Your slutty 2011 gear plans.

I really liked this thread last year so thought id start it again.
I had a pretty good 2010 but never got the hardware comp i was lusting after (buying a house stopped that).
So this year my plans are to build my gssl and also maybe buy another hardware comp, maybe an api2500 or fatso or stereo distressors.
Also id like a pre to constantly have my voyager hooked into and maybe a distressor for that too. Then maybe another stereo pre hooked into a patch bay for running whatever other hardware synth im using in the given track.
The a few software purchases, I want something from softube and the elysia soft comps.

heh

+1 to that.

But the slutty side of me wants a Nord Electro 3 and a Virus Ti. Maybe a DBX 160 compressor, too. thumbsup

Another +1 from me.

I am sick of drooling over new machines and stealing time from the ones that I already have in my studio.

This, but with a bit of luck I'm going to move and get a bigger studio, so I hope that the only major investments are going to be DIY basstraps.

I'm planning on going back to basics.

Minimum computer use, I'm very interested in re-exploring what made late 70s early 80s so interesting. ie the limited confine of what was available (cv/din-sync/early midi). in a word 'simplicity'

Maybe controversially, I'm finding modern computer control is somehow giving too many options, and ironically 'diluting' how I want to make the music.

It may sound insane, but its what I plan to explore in 2011.

I will be selling a few pieces to fund some 'earlier' hardware

more gears and more music for me ,i need a new ad/da interface and i bring back my hardware that collected dust all this year in my workflow, can t wait cause i m getting really tired of plugins .
New gears plan :a culture vulture or something similar is expected + 1 or 2 hardware synths + a good analog desk (or a hybrid one with ad/da ).

You guys, the thread#s title reads: "SLUTTY gear plans", not "being smart plans" tutt

Of course, I still agree with less gear, more music

But in the spirit of the OP question, here's what my answer would be:

Contemplating some Moogerfoogers, but too much choice, and with the rumours about moog going euro, whoaaa

I would love to have a GS-R24 console, but I can't afford that anytime soon.

Also thinking about the new SEM, which has both Midi AND Patch, would complement my Voyager quite well I think.

A small modular setup to complement my Voyager is something I am thinking about too, but I fear that once starting with modulars...I'll never be able to stop...

I'd also love to build a gssl, but I think I'll first start with a Shrutni...

GASsing? Who? Me? Nooo way!

I am on a quest in 2011 for a mint Prophet-5 and TR-808. Then my analog lust will be over.

a big changeover to more hardware for 2011. I can't stand sitting down with soft synths anymore, I feel completely drained whenever I do.

I'm going to preorder an Octatrack on the 30th, and pick up a Virus C whenever I can. Add in an MBase and MBrane to the mix, and probably one other synth and I should be happy for at least the next year or so

This will be the biggest difference ever! No piece of gear will make such a huge difference! Of all the things I EVER spent (audio related) money on, acoustic treatment gave me the best ROI. Enjoy the process!

I'm also into making as much music as possible. My bassist and I are blending our gear together in my studio (my space is bigger and soundproof) so I think that we're gonna be fine gear-wise for some time (and it'll be awesome to finally have a Moog Voyager in my studio too). Putting together a record is our #1 priority now, along with some live shows which is also something we are dedicating lots of effort to.

LET'S GIVE ALL THAT STEEL, WOOD AND PLASTIC SOME GOOD USE GUYS!!heh

I am getting a Slim Phatty to handle bass lines. Then ditch my Mackie LM3204 and get 2 more 8 channel FW interfaces so I dont have to submix most of my hardware on stage. I would also like to get a Waldorf Micro Q keyboard or the Moog Voyager instead of the Oxygen8 on stage.

While a lot of people are downsizing and planning to make more music in 2011, I'm going to buy more gear and make less music.

All right, this is what I'm planning to get in order of importance (I'm pretty sure I won't be able to pull all of it in one year though):

1. A mixer: Mackie Onyx 820i
2. A dual digital reverb: Lexicon MX400
3. A chorus box: Red Witch Empress
4. A recorder: Zoom H4N
5. A sampler: not specified yet

Why less music? Because this year will be the first stage of my music theory and keyboard skills major makeover. heh

In 2011 in plan to:

- Fill the remaining 18 MU spaces in my modular.
- Buy a nice guitar or bass amp to run stuff through.
- Get some kind of drum pads (Alesis ControlPad, maybe).
- Replace my obsolete 8x8 MIDI interface with a smaller one and decide what to do with the rest of my MIDI rig.

I spend enough time playing and writing. This year I would like to do something really slutty just not sure how much money I will have. A piano module and another compressor is most likely definite.

If I do end up having money this year you might as well call me Slutty Slutty Bang Bang.

I'm thinking 2011 will be the year I finally develop a serious modular habit.
I'm getting a Det3 Archangel sequencer, just to make the temptation unbearable. heh

but I may check out the Octatrack or Spectralis 2.

I'm to lazy to sit in my chair at the computer.

I might pick up either a Kurzweil PC3K 61 key (if they release one), or a polyphonic Moog (if they make it).

Otherwise, I'm selling more than I'm buying these days.

REBUILD!

A lot of my booty here in my studio is 60s, 70s, and 80s stuff. And a lot has been racked up without care for wire routing. So my January plan is to design a few pieces that I need in my work, then in February rip everything out and clean it (re-cap) and align, and put it all back. Right now my studio is not conducive to productive workspace.

i'm getting a few additions to my mbp, boring but much needed: two 2.5" HDDs @7200, HDD adapter to replace superdrive, ext hdd raid box. then:

Akai APC20 or APC40
Fireface UFX, instead of my FF800
flight case for mbp+apc+ffUFX+ES-1
finish refurbishing my OBX (partly done)
have my prophet 5 rev2 overhauled in the spring

aside from that, no definite slutty plans. so far i had only toyed with the following ideas:

have my SSM-based vco and vcf modules finished in motm or frac format
buying some PCBs from yu-synth and oakley
Elkorus
Ashly LX308B line mixer - for my fx returns live
refurb Studer 169.. if there will be nice projects coming my way again..
another old SEM, or Source, or JP4 if i run into one
