So which two sound the best for you in the context of this comparison?

Since there is no context and the first four sounds all are good sounding i cannot single two out.

It's a very fun test!

I can't decide over C or B. Maybe like this:

C is best, I like the bottom end and the overall richness
B is close second, sometimes very "over moogish", very much alive
A is little sterile, but good anyway
D is little dull, lacks bottom end
E don't care so much

No idea what are the actual synths. D and E must be some (new) cheaper stuff, B/C must be vintage moogs or similar. A maybe little newer than B/C.

I didn't think any of them sounded bad. A and C both were about equally as good to my ears. My preferences were:

C
A
B
D
E

I spent some quality time listening to the samples, and I'm unable to tell which one I like 'best', especially since it's not in the context of a mix or any other sounds. Yes, some are brighter, darker, thicker, thinner, etc. The one thing that I can say is that I feel like I'm hearing more of the ADC rather than the actual differences between each instrument. I downloaded all the files, but I just can't vote.

I voted for "A". It sounds the best to me by quite a wide margin. If I had to guess its identity I'd say a Spectral Audio Neptune II or a Little Phatty.

Let me start off by saying that I've never owned a Moog or even played one for a substantial period of time, so I make no attempt to judge which one sounds the "Moogiest".

Also, I found it hard to compare them since the patterns being played weren't identical.

That being said, I found that I liked A & B the best. C was close, too.

D & E, though, did nothing for me. I'm really surprised that E isn't a softsynth or VA--I thought it easily sounded the worst.

A sure isn't 70s Moog I think. It could, however, be a Source.

Let's put the bets on what A and E are! Those are the ones that intrigue me the most. I still think E is probably a good synth, which is in need of some loving care (as in, changing bad components...)

The two I mentioned sound very "vintagy" to my ears, as far as what you can buy new today. Along with the new SEM. But he didn't say they were new synths, so Synth "A" could very well be a vintage piece. Wouldn't surprise me. But my first guess is the Neptune II, mostly based on the SQR1VCO+RESO clip. Just sounds like it to me.

And here i thought that the religious ones always were the best to find loopholes in their moral codex...

So much for growing up in a fairly atheist society...

Obviously not the popular option, but "D" is the best IMHO.
