Today was the day I discovered Jacob Collier. Genius level harmony and vocals. Perfect pitch. And his video editing skills are top notch as well.

Hasn't hit 30 yet, and already he's written, performed, or collaborated with so many greats. And 2 Grammies. Glad to see jazz is still going strong.

And here's an unedited witness to his raw talents (props to Aimee too!).

Starts after 4:20

Oh,I was raised only on classical, my mother bought me a huge stack of records when I was 8 years old, they were like songs without a movie to me. I didn't get into rock music until I met met my older stepbrother at 12, his room was like a shrine to Kiss, and he played the drums.

LOL, we are still brothers very much.

I love classical, probably more than Rush or jazz. No opera though!

I was about 12 when I was introduced to KISS, thanks to a couple backyard brothers, who also had a shrine in the living room. That was my first exposure to any rock whatsoever, believe it or not!

I grew up moving all the time, new military base about every 2-3 years, all the way until high school. Dad hated rock, only country, and mom was just church music. So I think I got a pretty skewed intro to music compared to most (basically nothing until about 13, when friends introduced me to Rush, Zeppelin, and DnD). We didn't even have a record player or stereo growing up... I got a clock radio in 9th grade and that's when I discovered radio stations existed! Crazy... but I did play trombone starting in 6th grade to college to the Air Force, so there's that....

I think my exposure to classical was thanks to Bugs Bunny and Tom & Jerry.

I recognize a couple motifs in there, like the ones around 4 and half minutes and 7 and half minutes. Reminds me a bit of Sousa too.

Beethoven is my favorite, but looks like Tchaikovsky might be next. Melody, bombast, story, contrast, breaking boundaries. I always like the William Tell Overture, well, at least the famous themes. IIRC last time I tried listening to it it dragged on for too long.

Beautiful. And her playing as well

Love the way her tone has more of a dark quality, even in the higher register. No screech. Also amazing is the way the violins as a whole all shared the same phrasing and dynamics in the second half.
