The JP-8000 as well as the SH-201 have a resonance clipping when you turn down the filter. Actually they have two peaks. I haven't really looked up the cutoff frequencies, but it is at the lower end of the spectrum.

I always thought that was annoying even over time I found ways to tame the clipping. However, when I played with my JP-6 I noticed the same two peaks at the lower end of the spectrum. We know that the JP-8k is modeled after the JP-6 but I did not know that it was modeled that faithful.

I do not want to say that the JP-8k is the best synth ever, but it is surprisingly authentic rolandy and can get far beyond the normal analog modeling. I personally prefer the SH-201 but the differences are small compared to other VA synths. It still surprises me what one can do with the synth. Never got that feeling from the JP-8, what was more or less a preset synth taking the crippled modulation depth into account.

Granted it is not the prize of my arsenal, but it will serve it's purpose.

I am certainly much more excited about bringing home my Trident from STG Sound Labs this weekend.

Yes, thank you! Mine is in a certain state of affairs...it needs...help. I will take possession in a day or two and in short order it will have a complete rebuild.

I am patient, and soon it will be a functioning, contributing factor to the studio.

So...who is the other lucky fellow?

We don't know is he lucky or not yet.

It depends is it only the leaked battery issue or not.

And please send my regards to Eric when you see him!

If you need any shots for reference/info or have any questions, feel free to ask. Mine will have the bonnet up shortly as I am taking Don's recommendation and replacing the caps in the PSU.

btw, is it a MK1 or MK2?

Cool

Looks like the knobs on the synth section are missing. On the MK1 they are actually the same ones as the MS / PS family of synths. The MKII uses the same ones as Polysix.

I think Vintage Planet may have some.

Heres a pic of mine, you can see the MS knobs a bit clearer

I think the whole board is just sitting there under the hood. The guy who gave it to suit started to refurb it, and then just never finished. It is my understanding that everything is there though. I am probably going to pick it up tomorrow (I already got that Prodigy in the background).

I found MkII to be surprisingly light compared to OB-X and JP-8. These are indeed quite heavy. heh

LOL! I've spent 4 years in the gym doing that as well. heh

So my opinion regarding the weight is probably way off. Still... bringing the OB-X to the third floor was a bitch...

Ever brought an Eminent 2500 Grand Theatre to the third floor?
An OB-Xa feels like a kazoo after that.

The pic shows the 2000 model, the smaller brother...

Bert

Finally got my new (old) Akai MPC1000 delivered. Currently in it's still in its original blue shape, but I plan to get the black casing from MPCStuff and/or add wood ends.

I've got a Moog MF-101 on the way to go with my Voyager and MF-102.

Sounds silly to have, but I always need more Moog filter and the envelope follower will be nice to have. Maybe I'll just leave it hooked up to my Machinedrum all the time or keep it in my patchbay loop.

Yea the JP80x0 has some filter and also modulation issues from what I saw. Kinda unfortunate really. I really should have tried it with an external filter and envelope follower and just left its filter wide open. The oscillator section was pretty fun- yes.

Maybe its just stupid of me, but I think the filter on a synth should be able to self oscillate. Something the JP never gets near.

That's a Chimera bC16 analog synth.
Nice little guy, but be prepared to wait for a LOOOOOONG time for your orders to arrive (see Chimera forum for more).
There's also a matching sequencer - I ordered mine in March 2008 (and paid for it) and haven't received it yet.

Cheers,
Bert

yea im sure Ozric Tentacles, Simon Posford, Dado, transwave, GMS and many many MANY more artists made a huge mistake using the JP8000 on their albums/live acts, they could have sell alot more if only they used ... insted.
