Oh, how I wish I could afford one.

But this works well enough, I actually like it a lot, it definitely cuts down on the amount of wires laying around in my practice space. Before I just had a bunch of wires running through to the other room, its nice to not have to run all the way into the other room just to fix some levels.

yeah I agree, I'm using a few small mixers now too. They all go to one patchbay/mixer. I got a secondhand Rane (also inexpensive), sounds good enough, and I'm modding cheap small mixing modules with new (expensive) opamps soon. Stoked to hear the difference.
the euro rack of Doepfer is pretty expensive (but high quality). I'm going to offer a nice alternative (killer ex-airforce racks with fat stabillised power and all the options to build a modular system), it should be ready somewhere next month (having a bit of a delay with suppliers ) but cost of shipping will probably mean that's EU only. It'll be possible to mix/match regular 3u 19" gear with a row (3u) of euro modules. or 6u of eurorack, or one row of 5u and one 19" slot. etc.

Got a JD800 today. Running through the onboard sounds I'm thinking why did I even bother. A testament to the greatness of analog synthesis.

However, I'll give it many shots. The controls seem very inviting, so I guess it's just a question of the waveforms and the filter. I just can't stop thinking it doesn't sound nowhere as cool as my other early nineties hero, SY99. The JD seems programmable however, I'll spend some time with it.

the achieved mastering of our first album => halo trail on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos

I would persevere, its a fantastic synth, (apart from Wavestation), I can't think of a better synth for digital semi-warm pads and strings. Layer with an MKS-70 and you are in heaven. The presets aren't that bad, but don't give particularly good estimate of what its capable of.

I think you will begin to like it after a bit of exploring. thumbsup

OK, I wasn't going to mention it, but just got my first synth stand. It's an ex floor stock unit from a local shop. 3 tier for $AU135. A bit wobbly, but not too bad. I don't even know what brand it is. I've just moved into a smaller room, so having the stand is a boon. Makes me want to put better synths on it though.

Also just got my new computer set up. Haven't got a DAW for it yet. Getting round to making that decision soon. I'm a little disappointed that my audio interface isn't supported in Linux. I should have checked more thoroughly first. I was hoping to have a toy around in Linux land.

Good luck with that

Nothing new from me other than the Mackie 1640i, been mostly a 'selling' month.

It's not so bad. I do all my production in Windows so far anyway. I had read something about Linux drivers for my interface, but nothing came to fruition. Linux for music is still just a curiosity for me, more than anything.

Cheers,

Oli

I want a Blofeld too. They seem pretty versatile, and I've really enjoyed a lot of demos. Value for money is great too.
